場所岡山市西大寺は、昔西大寺市というのがあっただけあって、岡山市内とは違う特別な地域である。

Saidaiji has a rich history as a temple town centered around Kannon-in (also known as Saidaiji Kannon-in). The area flourished not only due to its religious significance but also as an important port for Takasebune, a type of traditional Japanese riverboat. This combination of spiritual and commercial activities contributed to Saidaiji's prosperity as a thriving commercial town.

One of the most notable aspects of Saidaiji's cultural heritage is its preservation of numerous cultural assets. Unlike many other Japanese cities, Saidaiji was fortunate to escape significant wartime destruction, allowing it to maintain much of its historical architecture and artifacts.

A unique and famous event associated with Saidaiji is the Hadaka Matsuri (Naked Festival), which takes place at Saidaiji Kannon-in. During this festival, a fierce competition occurs among a large group of nearly naked participants. The focal point of this event is the struggle to obtain two sacred wooden sticks (shingi) that are thrown by the temple's head priest. The participants who successfully grab these sacred wooden bars are called "Fukuotoko" (lucky men). According to local beliefs, these individuals are thought to receive good fortune for the coming year.
