Comment about dancers :

Prima ballerina Svetlana Zakharova led off as Medora, bringing to the part her usual elegance and precision and appearing more involved in creating a real character than has been noted in the past. Zakharova looked happy dancing Medora. Without much doubt, it will soon become one of her most popular roles.

Though a dancer of a rather different kind, Maria Aleksandrova gave every bit as fine a performance on Saturday. Hers was a more dynamic sort of Medora, with a nice quota of those astonishing leaps for which she is justly renowned. She also proved marvelously droll in the part's many humorous moments.

Denis Matviyenko played Conrad opposite Zakharova and danced with all of his accustomed skill. But it was Nikolai Tsiskaridze on Saturday who really brought Conrad to life, throwing himself into the Pas de Deux in a manner that brought to mind Rudolf Nureyev's fabled performances of four decades ago.
