英語学習関連の売り場に、源氏物語をもとにした名作漫画である大和和紀著「あさきゆめみし」のバイリンガル版を発見し、懐かしさのあまり買ってしまいました。 私が中学生になる頃に発売された漫画で、繊細な美しい絵と華やかな朝廷の描写に魅せられ、想像力をかきたてられたのを思い出しました。
高校生の頃、範囲が決められていない古文の実力試験の前には、「あさきゆめみし」をクラスメイトと回し読みして、基礎知識の把握に努めたことを思い出します。
今回はバイリンガル版なので英会話での言い回しを確認しながら、絵を鑑賞して楽しめます。

Last Sunday, I went to a bookstore and found a comic of ‘Asakiyumemishi’ which is an adaptation from the original ‘The Tail of Genji’(Genjimonogatari). The comic was published serially so long, from 1979 to 1993. I read it when I was junior high school or high school student. I was fascinated with beautiful pictures and aristocracy’s life in the peak of Heian period.
The Tail of Genji is sometimes called the world’s first novel which has main character and various kinds of minor characters, complicated relationships and sequence of events.
I am curious about how to translate romantic lines in English.
