　市販の不織布マスクの多くも、新型コロナウイルスの大きさとされる0．1マイクロメートル程度の粒子やバクテリアを遮断できることが性能試験で確認されているといい、同社担当者は「人混み（至近距離）で飛沫（ひまつ）を受け止める程度の効果はある」と説明する。

　東京都感染症情報センターの石川貴敏疫学情報担当課長は「N95は息苦しく、一般人が着用するのはやり過ぎ。不織布マスクを勧める」と話す。ただ、「不織布もエアロゾル（浮遊する微粒子）になったくしゃみのしぶきを完全には防げない」と言い、マスクはウイルスの拡散防止には有効だが、うつされるリスクを大きく減らすことはできないとの見解を示す。
