於是其弟、泣患居海邊之時、鹽椎神來、問曰「何虛空津日高之泣患所由。」答言「我與兄易鉤而、失其鉤。是乞其鉤故、雖償多鉤、不受、云猶欲得其本鉤。故泣患之。」
爾鹽椎神、云「我爲汝命、作善議。」卽造无間勝間之小船、載其船、以教曰「我押流其船者、差暫往。將有味御路、乃乘其道往者、如魚鱗所造之宮室、其綿津見神之宮者也。到其神御門者、傍之井上、有湯津香木。故坐其木上者、其海神之女、見相議者也。」訓香木云加都良、木。
故、隨教少行、備如其言、卽登其香木以坐。爾海神之女、豐玉毘賣之從婢、持玉器將酌水之時、於井有光。仰見者、有麗壯夫。
≪英訳≫
When the younger brother was by the seaside, grieving and crying, the deity Shiozuchi came and asked, “Why is the noble prince in such distress?” He replied, “I exchanged hooks with my brother and lost it. Although I offered many hooks in return, he refused to accept them and insisted on having his original hook back. That’s why I am crying.”
Then, Shiozuchi said, “I shall devise a plan for you.” He immediately made a small boat with a basket that had no gaps, and when he took you into the boat, and instructed the younger brother, saying, “I will push the boat out to sea for a brief moment. There is a path you should follow, where you will come across the palace, like a palace made of fish scales. That is the Sea God’s palace. When you reach the gate of the palace, there will be a magnificent Katsura tree by the well. If you sit on that tree, the Sea God’s daughter will come and confer with you.”
Following Shiozuchi’s instructions, the younger brother approached as instructed and found everything just as described. He climbed the Katsura tree as told. There, a woman attendant to Princess Toyotama, the daughter of the god of the sea, was about to draw water from a well with a jade bowl in her hand.
The well sparkled with light, and looking up, she saw a gallant young man.
≪この英文の和訳≫
その弟が海辺で悲しんで泣いていると、鹽椎（しおづち）の神がやってきて尋ねられました。「どうして、貴い御子様が悲しんでおられるのでしょうか。どうしてそうなられたのですか」と。弟は答えました。「兄と鉤（はり）を交換して、鉤を失いました。多くの鉤を返しても受け取らず、元の鉤を返してくれと言います。それで悲しんでいるのです」と。
そこで、鹽椎の神は「私がお手筈をめぐらします」と言い、隙間のない小船を造りました。そして、その船に乗せて教えられました。「私が船を海に押し流しますが、ほんの少しお待ちください。道がありますので、その道に従って進んでいただくと、魚の鱗のように造られた宮があります。それが海神の宮です。その宮の門のところに行かれると、井戸の上に立派な桂の木があります。その木の上に座っていただくと、海神の娘がいらっしゃり、何か相談に応じてくださるでしょう」と、お教えしました。
弟はその指示に従い、少しお待ちになり、全て言われた通りでしたので、桂の木に登って座りました。すると、海神の娘である豊玉毘売（トヨタマヒメ）の侍女が玉の器を持ち、井戸の水を汲もうとする時に、井戸が光り輝きました。彼女は仰いで見ると、立派な若者がいらっしゃいました。
