ヘンリー・ライダー・ハガードの作品「Jess」はどんな本・・・？

 

アマゾンのネットショップで販売している書籍で「ラージプリント」という、大型本がある。

H. Riderr Haggrd　ヘンリー・ライダー・ハガードの作品で「洞窟の女王」が大好きなので、しらべたところ、Echo Liburary 社の「洞窟の女王」があった。

視力の衰えている私にとっては文字サイズが16ポイントだと、二つある老眼鏡の中の、普通に使っているメガネで、本を読めるので便利である。 読書用の、度が強いメガネに取り替えなくてもすむ。

本の裏表紙にある案内では

She and Allan is a novel by H. Rider Haggard, first published in 1921. It brought together his two most popular characters, Ayesha from She (to which it serves as a prequel), and Allan Quatermain from King Solomon's Mines.

Its significance was recognized by its republication by the Newcastle Publishing Company as the sixth volume of the celebrated Newcastle Forgotten Fantasy Library series in September 1975.

ということは、有名な書物かもしれない。

しかし、ボーア戦争の物語で、「洞窟の女王」とは何のつながりもなく、登場人物も別人だ。

これが分かるまで、有名な本であるならば、出版されている本を買ってみようかと、思ったこともある。

しかし、「洞窟の女王」とは関係のない本ならば、買う必要もないとおもう。

原書と翻訳した本とを比較したいために、Ｅブックにで公開されているハガード作品の文章に段落を区別するように番号をつけているが、Ｊｅｓｓでは、その必要もない。
