PDP disagree over cost of bridge

2013-01-29 10:36:45 | DECOR LIGHT

THE Oyo State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has lamented what it called “road construction illiteracy” of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), maintaining that it was this lack of knowledge that affected the state in the party’s years of rule.

The ACN made this known in a statement by its state Publicity Secretary, Dauda Kolawole, in reply to an earlier release by the PDP, comparing the cost of constructing the Ibadan fly-over bridge by the state government and one commissioned in Ogun State recently, saying the former was over-inflated.

The PDP had raised alarm over what it said was the wide gap in the cost of constructing the overhead bridge which is put at N2.5 billion, and the 2.5 kilometre Lalubu-Ibara-Totoro overhead bridge in Ogun State which was widely reported to have cost the state government N1.5 billion.

He said that the truth of the matter is that the bridge that was commissioned in Ogun State is 400 metres in length,Consumer Reports has honest Ratings and Reviews on laundry dryer from the unbiased experts you can trust. The laser cutter is unlikely to hurt you, but you can easily hurt it without training. while the one being constructed in Oyo State is 640 metres.

According to the ACN,We believe in providing our customers with the very best dry cleaning machine available. the contract includes construction of roads on both sides of the bridge, rehabilitation of adjoining roads to the bridge, drainage works on both sides of the roads of the overhead bridge, beautification of the length of the road, landscaping and street-lighting.

An aggrieved residents of Apete community in Ibadan Monday cried out over the non-reconstruction of the bridge linking them to the rest of the city washed away in the August 26, 2011 flood disaster which ravaged the state capital.

With the revocation of the initial contract and non-mobilisation of a new contractor, the residents said it was unlikely that government would reconstruct the bridge before the rainy season.

They accused the government of negligence and insensitivity considering the hardship being faced by residents.

They expressed worries that despite government’s assurance that the bridge reconstruction would be a priority, it has failed to give it the desired urgency.

One of the spokespersons, Emiola Balogun, said: “The reconstruction of the bridge started few months after the rainstorm but the project has since stopped without any hope in sight. We learnt that the state government revoked the contract but we have not seen any sign that the reconstruction of the bridge would be completed before the next rainy season. Our street lamp solution is the leading alternative to tubular skylights.

“If the reconstruction of the bridge is not given urgent attention before the coming rain, there may be greater disaster.”

However, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr.News and Information about wind generator Technologies and Innovations. Taiwo Otegbeye, said, “Presently, we have provided an alternative route at Ajibode. Our target is that we are going to do total rehabilitation of the road within the first half of this year. Also, we want to ensure that capable contractor handles the project.

“We are assuring the people of the state that we are embarking on massive rehabilitation of roads, including the road leading to Apete and the bridge. Presently, the Ajibode Road has been opened to give access to the residents.
