Bullshit, crap, whatever you want to call it.

Excuse my English

2006-05-22 | Weblog
I have decided to write articles in this blog in English more often than in Japanese for the next couple of months. I will be going to Belgium to attend an international conference this September, by which I want to recover my English skills. Keeping a journal is one of the best things you could do to learn a language.

It is 13 years since I left Vancouver, and my English has been totally deteriorated. Long time ago, I studied for TOEFL exam, got into the University of British Columbia and studied marine biology for 5 years (didn’t manage to graduate in regular 4 years). Although I don’t think I did my best to master English being a lazy student, my English was okay when I came back to Japan. But 13 years is long enough a time to lose your language skills.

I always feel strange when I see native Japanese people speaking to each other in English in Japan. I guess they are eager to learn English and working real hard on it. Which is a great thing to do as a student, but I somehow feel embarrassed, feeling as if watching a naive school play by junior high kids. I guess I am wicked.

Anyway, this is the reason I am writing this lengthy excuse to write this in English, while most, if not all, readers of this site are Japanese speakers. I wonder if there are any readers in the first place, though.

I guess I've been too self-conscious, but if you think I am humiliating myself here, please leave me alone.
