KATO KAZUHIKO's Live

 I`m in concert here with Kato Kazuhiko, joined by Sakazaki Konosuke,

and around 20 other performers.

It is a tribute to a special song that Kato san wrote,

that has been covered many times by various artists..."Imuzin Gawa". 

 

I recorded with Kato and Sakazaki san last year,

and it was a great experience, as they are legendary artists in Japan,

and we share much of the same musical roots.(actually,my 60`s roots!) 

 

 There was a Korean dancer...very beautiful...with Kato san playing gong,

bamboo flute, Brazilian samba drum, jazz bass, and latin percussion...what a mix !

 

 Here I am in folk music mode...! Did you think I had this side of me ?

 

Well, you wont see this in my show !

What you will see on Sept 10th is some real, home-cooked soul music !

Mixed with funky organ jazz, cool rhythmic groove,

bluesy harmonica with the vocal of Brenda Vaughn,

and a lovely sax player I am introducing, Ayumi Unno.

OKINAWA Highlights！

Im back in Tokyo now, but what a great time I had in Okinawa.

My skin is tanned,and I had so much good food!

 

On the flight ,over Okinawa...! The weather is perfect!

And the water is so clear and beautiful !

 

The first night ,

I joined my friend, trumpet player  Ryan Mizuno and his wife.

They took us to this unique Okinawan izakaya...

 

We drank lots of awamori,mixed with Siquasu,an Okinawan citrus fruit.

We had so many Okinawa specialty foods!!!

 

Then...

 

On show day, this free concert, hosted by the American base, was for the

American and Okinawan people.

 

 The Brenda Vaughn Band, all-stars from Tokyo, in rehearsal.

The show was on the airfield runway.

 

So many people came to enjoy the music !!!

There was hanabi fireworks,too !!!

Comedian Cocoa Brown,

taking time off from the Kings and Queens of Comedy tour,to entertain in Japan.

She made our bus into a mini comedy club,

and had us all laughing the whole night !!!

 

The whole trip was so much fun ! I enjoyed fresh air,lots of hot sun,

too much food , laughing and drinking with my friends, and played 2 fantastic shows.

And speaking of great music, it will be Brenda`s  turn to join The Philip Woo Band,

Sept 10th at Blues Alley, for my "Indian Summer Soul" show.

Indian Summer means a late summer... this means that it will be a hot show !!!

Please dont miss it, I will be playing REAL soul music, so get ready!
