ケニア西部の幹線道路で、３１日午前３時ごろ、首都ナイロビに向かっていた長距離バスと大型トラックが正面衝突しました。
地元メディアは、この事故でバスの乗客と運転手、それにトラックの運転手の合わせて３６人が死亡、１０人ほどがけがをしたと伝えています。
現地からの映像では、バスは大破して横転しているほか、トラックも車体の前部が大きく壊れています。
フランスのＡＦＰ通信は、バスの乗客の男性が「眠っていたら、突然、大きな衝撃音と叫び声が聞こえた。たくさんの人が死んでいるのを見た」と話していると伝えています。
ケニアでは、公共交通機関の事故で乗客が死亡するケースが相次いでいて、今回の事故について、地元の警察はバスのブレーキの故障が事故につながった可能性があるとの見方を示しています。
