We had a softball tournament held by Dallas Japanese Association last Sunday. This year, there were 14teams getting to attend.
Every year I come to this softball game and see Japanese people, I recognize there are so many Japanese people living in Dallas. I don’t usually see Japanese people as much as people in this game. It’s kind weird to me to see a lot of Japanese in Dallas.
Our team ,“Team D(anonymous)” have joined in this tournament for 3 years. My husband was a coach on behalf of his boss who couldn’t play due to his job this year. As for me, I gave a woman position, which I had been in last two years, to Ms.N who plays softball in another team. Our “Team D”, which was named after my husband’s company, consists of his co-workers and friends from other companies. His company or other companies, the company doesn’t matter. “Team D” is for 11 players and their supporters as well.
Last two years, we went home after lunch. That means we couldn’t get thru a heat. It was close last year,though. So, our goal of this year was to get thru the first heat. We had to get thru it!
We had 3 games in the first heat. We played with a high school boys’ team at the first game. Playing with high school boys… high school boys…it sounds they have much power and greater. But, we won. And second game, we got the game again. Then third game, we lost. However, we got through the heat. Yes, we achieved our goal !! Then we got a new goal to win the FINAL !!!!
I said about our goal of this game earlier. Actually, we (only Japanese his co-workers) had another goal. Some man from my husband’s company played on another team, not on our “team D”. We called him a “betrayer”. Of course, it was a joke. Also, that guy knew it. We were concerned how he or his team was playing. Yes, you got now, our another goal was to beat him !! Last two years, we didn’t have the game with his team. Finally, we got a chance to play with them at the semi-final. Yes! We beat him. We achieved another (unofficial) goal.
Now, we are ready for the final !
At the beginning, another team was two point ahead of us. My husband made a big hit to the left field. Jim, next batter, shot it as well although he got injured his leg. We were facing to a BIG chance. Next batter,Mr.M, closed his eyes to concentrate himself before being in the batter box. Then he did it. He made a running homerun !! We came from behind !!
(Speaking of Mr.M, I saw him slapping himself in his face to pump himself up at the earlier inning.)
Finally, we were in the last inning. We were so close to the top. I saw everyone was nervous, especially, a pitcher guy. He is usually calm. I have never seen him so nervous before. Then he did a good job. He didn’t allow them to send more than three batters. That means…..YES,YES,YEEEEEES !! We DID it !!!
At the moment of the win.
Our team is awesome ! They are tremendous!! I saw them being in one. And I know they never gave up though we had some behind games. I believe this win was led by TEAM PLAY. I'm really really proud of them.
As for our coach, he wasn’t familiar with technical theory, however, he made his effort that he cheered up teammates and he asked and accepted others' opinion.
We are the Champ !!
