高杉晋作のグラス【萩ガラス工房】

今年の夏も萩に帰省。萩焼を見る目も肥えてきましたが、萩ガラスっていうのもあるんですねぇ。
幕末に長州藩が事業化、その品質の高さから天皇家にも献上されたんだとか。。その後幕末のごたごたで廃業、しだいに人々の記憶から消えていきました。その後130年の時を経て、萩ガラス工房の手により復活。これは、かの高杉晋作愛用の酒器を復刻したものです。当時切り子グラスは12面カットが一般的でしたが、これはヨーロッパ風の10面カットが特徴で、国内では萩のみの仕様だったようです。高杉晋作は、三味線やお酒を愛した風流人としても有名ですが、これが、よほどお気に入りだったようで、福田侠平（奇兵隊幹部）に贈ったと伝えられる『自画自賛』という自筆の書に、このグラスで酒を呑む自分の姿を描いています。今宵は幕末の志に思いを馳せながら、冷酒でも飲ってみますかねぇ。

酒瓶ただみずから親しむ
酔いきたりて肘を枕に睡る
しらず何人をか夢みる

浮世のわずらわしさから逃れ
酒瓶だけを相手に一人酒を飲む
酔って肘をまくらにうたたねすれば
一体、誰の夢を見るのだろうか
