Bang Seng models

eBay の 1/43 グループに Bang Seng ってどんなもんなの、と質問がでてたので、私の持ってるモデルを２つ写真にとってコメントしました。

両方ともボディの塗装はかなり綺麗ですが、個人的に以下の部分が不満です。
- 両方とも内装の品質はあまりよくありません。
- 両方ともタイヤのサイドウォールが旋盤で挽いただけ、という感じにまっ平らです。
- Dubonnet Xenia の顔がちょっと横に広すぎ。

でもモデルが出てるだけありがたいってところですかね。

There was a question posted to 1/43 model group in eBay. I took pictures of two Bang Seng models and replied to the question.

The bodies of both models are beautifully painted. But I'm not too happy with the followings.
- The quality of interior of both models could have been better.
- Sidewall of tire for both models is completely flat. It looks like as if the tires are turned by a lathe without any work on sidewall.
- The face of Dubonnet Xenia looks too wide.

But it's only game in town.

Maserati Birdcage Tipo 61 by CMC

私は基本的には1/43専門ですが、1/18のダイキャストも持ってたりします。近頃Yahoo グループでも噂になってる CMC のバードケージを購入しました。

CMC は高品質で名を馳せてますが、今回も期待を裏切らない仕上がりです。最後に買ったメルセデス W196 も素晴らしかったですが、バードケージはその構造からよりメカニカルな部分が強調されて緻密に見えます。

キットがあったとして、自分で組み立てることを考えると気が遠くなりそうなくらいの作りこみです。これが＄２２０(ewacars.com のメンバー価格)で手に入るとはいい時代ですなあ。決して安くはないですが、価値は十二分にありますね。

ちなみに写真の一番奥は Auto Union Type C です。

I usually collect / build 1/43 models, but also have several 1/18 models. I bought Maserati Birdcage by CMC about which lots of talk were going on a Yahoo group.

CMC is known for its high quality products and the Birdcage is no exception. My last purchace was Mercedes W196 Streamliner which was excellent model. But the Birdcage looks even detailed because of its unique space frame.

It's so detailed that I even wouldn't try to build it if there were a kit. We're lucky that it's offered at $220 (at ewacars.com with 10% member discount). Of course it's lot of money for a diecast model, but I'd say every penny is worth it.

BTW the model in far back is Auto Union Type C.

Vertex MB 540K Cabriolet C by Sindelfingen 1936

この間 eBay で獲得した戦利品です。1300hf さんから買いました。Vertex と言うメーカーはまったく聞いたことがなく、ウェブで検索してもちっとも引っかかりません。しかしながら写真がかっこよく見えたのと、リーズナブルな値段で出品する人だというのは分かっていたので、思い切って即決してみました。

結果は大当たり。モデルのクオリティは私が見る限り少なくとも Heco と同じぐらいです。この写真では分からないですが、フロントグリルは繊細なエッチングで表現されていて、さらにその奥にラジエータが見えます。Heco よりだいぶ安い値段で落札しました。手に入りにくさを考えると、とてもよい買い物でした。後でホームページのギャラリーにモデルの写真を載せる予定です。

出品時の説明によると、この車は Sindelfingen （コーチビルダーらしいです）によって William Burden 氏のために作られたそうです。この Burden 氏は Cornelius Vanderbilt 氏(19世紀末ころのアメリカの超大富豪だそうですね、知りませんでした。）の子孫だそうです。

で、お礼のメールを出品者に出しついでに、このメーカーのことや、どのくらい昔から 1/43 モデルを趣味にしてらっしゃるかたずねてみました。メールをやり取りしている間に分かったのですが、この方ランチャアウレリアクーペを持っていて、最近のミッレミリアにも参加したことがあるんだそうです。すっげー。で、最近は実車のほうに時間を割くので、長年集めたモデルを処分しているんだそうです。趣味を通じて興味深い人たちに出会えるのがうれしいですね。

Recently I won this model at eBay. The seller is 1300hf. I never heard of the make Vertex nor I couldn't find any information on the net. But the model looks so attractive and I know this guy puts reasonable price on his items, so I decided to buy it.

I made right decision. The model is comparable to Heco's products or better. The front grill is made of very fine photoetched parts, then there's a radiator behind it. The price was cheaper than Heco's model. Considering the availability of the model, it was very good buy. I'm going to put pictures of the model in the gallery in my web site.

Accoding to the description from the auction, the coachwork is done by Sindelfingen for Willam Burden who's great great grandson of Cornelius Vanderbilt (a super rich guy at the end of 19 century - I didn't know that).

I sent mail to the guy to say thank him for the deal and also asked about the make and how long he's been collecting these models. Over the conversation it turned out he owns a Lancia Aurelia coupe and has joined recent Mille Miglia. Wow, I'm pretty impressed! Now he's trying to concentrate on 1:1, thus selling the models he collected over the years. I'm glad to get to know interesting people through the hobby.

先日 mafma.com で買った品が到着しました。まずは今は亡き Starter の完成品、Peugeot RC Pique(Spade） と Carreau(Diamond)。2002 年の Geneva のショーでデビューした車です。黒が 2.0L ガソリンエンジンで、赤が 2.2L ディーゼルエンジンだそうです。

各 40 ユーロでした。セール品で多分定価の半額だと思います。塗装はきれいなのですが、テールライトがデカール表現だったり、ドアミラーがかなりいい加減な筆塗りだったりするのが不満です。Starter の完成品はこのほか Maserati Tipo 63 しか持ってませんが、それらを見る限り LookSmart よりちょっと安いくらいの値段(USD 100 くらい) で、Spark モデル(USD 40 くらい）位の出来なので、競争に勝てなかったのではないでしょうかね。

The other day I received the items I bought from mafma.com. The first ones are factory built model from Starter, Peugeot RC Pique (Spade) and Carreau (Diamond) that were introduced in Geneva motor show 2002. The black one has 2.0L gasoline engine, and Red one is with 2.2L diesel.

The each model costed 40 Euro, which I think a half of MSRP (they were at a discount). The paint job of the body is beautiful, though the tail lights are decals and the door mirrors are very poorly hand painted. Other than them I have only one Starter factory built model (Maserati Tipo 63). Judging from them, Starter didn't survive because their models cost almost as much as LookSmart (about USD 100) still the quality is similar to Spark (about US 40).
