Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona by Auto Barn

ポルシェのウィンドシールドに四苦八苦している間にもう２月も終わりになりそうです。すっかり前回の更新から日が経ってしまいました。

今回の買い物は１９７２年のルマンを走った、Auto Barn 製 フェラーリ３６５デイトナです。各パネルはオープン固定ですが、エンジンルームには各種コード類も再現されています。デカールはリアウインドウにかかっているゼッケンを除いてクリアコートされています。実車にどれくらい忠実なのか知りませんが、この内容で200ドルは安いと思いません？

BBR キットベースということですが、Auto Barn にメールして聞いたところ、BBR のガソラインシリーズ用のキット（一般向けの販売はなし）を Auto Barn で組み立て販売しているそうです。

It's been a while since the last update here. How are you guys doing?

This is Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Le Mans 1972, made by Auto Barn. All panels are fixed open and spark plug wires are there in the engine room. All decals except the one on the rear window are clear-coated. I don't know how accurate this model is, but I think $200 for this model is a good deal.

This mode is based on BBR kit. I checked with Auto Barn about the kit and found that they get special kits (not publicly available) directly from BBR which are for Gasoline models, then they build and sell by themselves.

Delahaye 135Ms Chapron By Heco Miniatures

久々の Looksmart 以外の完成品です。Grand Prix Models の広告メールで見つけてひとめぼれ、いいお値段(送料込みで＄４００くらい)でしたが思い切って買ってしまいました。Grand Prix Models には申し訳ないですが Mafma.com で。だって GPM 高いんだもん。

この手の超高級車は第二次世界大戦前あたりが流行の頂点だったようですが、この車は1946年だから大戦直後ですね。エレガントなラインと鮮やかな塗装がたまりません。かっこいいなあ。Heco のモデルは３台目ですが、これは椅子、幌のカバー、台座に皮が張ってあり、ケースも立派なものになっていて、以前のモデルに比べて高級感を増してます。透明セルに印刷されたゲージを貼り付けただけと思しきダッシュボードはもう少しどうにかして欲しいところですが、それ以外の仕上がりは以前とあまり変わらないようで特に不満はありません。

It's been a while since I purchased a car model from other maker than Looksmart. I found this model in Grand Prix Model's ad, bought at Mafma.com (sorry GPM, but the other site had better deal - about 400USD including shipping).

These extravagant cars were at their height in late 1930. This car was built in 1946, right after the World War 2. Elegant lines and vivid colors are very attractive. This is my third Heco model. The leather on seats, tonneau cover and the display base, and the large display case makes this model more luxurious than the other two. They could do better job on the instrumental panel than just attaching clear styrene with printed gauges. Otherwise the quality or style of the finishing doesn't seem to change much from the previous releases, and I'm happy with the model overall.

Ferrari 512BB

遅まきながらアイドロン（メイクアップ）の 512BB を入手しました。LookSmart といい、このクラスの完成品の品質には毎度感心させられます。前にご紹介したカムシンのように、リトラクタブルライトの間のグリルと、バンパー内のグリルは両方ともエッチングパーツの組み合わせで作られてます。

写真の向こう側に写ってるのは AMR のメタルキットです。フロントガラスが大きめで、アイドロンに比べて多少幅広ですが、それ以外のプロポーションは良好です。しかし私の腕ではアイドロンにかなうものは残念ながら作れそうにありません。

I got a model of Ferrari 512BB by Eidolon (Make Up Co.) I'm always impressed by the quality of the models in this price range. The grill between the retractable headlights and the one in the bumper are made of several photoetched parts, just like as the Khamsin I wrote about before.

The one in the back in the picture is the white metal kit by AMR. The windshield seem bit too tall, but otherwise the shape look pretty good. I wish only if I could build as good model as Eidolon does...

Display case #2

２階建ての棚ですが、アルミパイプを切ったものに真鍮線を曲げて足にして差し込み、その上にアクリルの板を載せただけです。アルミパイプがダイキャストの重さに負け気味でちょっとしなりますが、つぶれなければとりあえずオーケーです。一番大変なのはアクリル板を切り出す作業ですね。

The shelf is made of aluminum tubes, brass wires and acrylic sheet. Aluminum pipes are strong enough to hold diecast models, though they slightly bend by the weight of the models. The hardest part is to cut acrylic sheet in size but otherwise it's easy to make one.

Display case

引っ越して４ヶ月半、いまだに部屋の片づけが終わってませんが、ダイキャストミニカーのディスプレーケースを取り付けました。本当は 1/18 スケール用のものですが、1/43 のミニカーを台座からはずせばひとつの仕切りに５台は入ります。それでもスペースが足りなくなってきたので、仕切りの中を２階建てにしてます。

After four and half month, finally I installed the display cases for die-cast models. These case are for 1/18 scale models, and each partition can store at least five of 1/43 scale models. Yet I needed more space, so I made simple shelves that go in each partiton.

Maserati Khamsin by Vertex

朝夕かなり冷え込むようになってまいりましたが、皆様いかがお過ごしでしょうか。久々に４３ネタです。"43 in Seattle" なんて看板上げてるんだから、一ヶ月に一度くらいやらないといけませんね。

かなり前になりますが、eBay で落札したマセラティカムシンのモデルです。以前に Miura さんのサイト でも紹介されてました(Miura さん、ご無沙汰してますがお元気ですか？)。出品時の説明によると Vertex という会社が Replicars と言うオランダのショップのために作成したもので、250台限定生産らしいです。この Vertex というのは以前にご紹介した Mercedes 540K カブリオレもつくっているメーカーです。

モデルですが細部にいたるまで非常に高品質です。メタリックグリーンとはちょっと変わった色ですが、綺麗な仕上がりです。フロントのグリルは最近流行（？）のエッチング板を組み合わせたもので、量産品にはなかなか見られない作りです。強いて欠点を挙げるとしたら、ドアミラーの鏡面部分はホワイトメタルを磨いただけのように見えますが、些細なところです。落札価格は 150ドル弱でしたが、200ドルでも買いの素晴らしいモデルだと思います。

It's been a while since I picked up any topic about 1/43rd model last time.

Here's the 1/43rd model of Maserati Khamsin I won at eBay a while ago. According to the description of the auction, a company called Vertex built 250 copies of this model for Dutch firm Replicars. The company Vertex also made the model of Mercedes 540K Cabriolet I reviewed before in this blog.

This model is built to a very high standard. The body is in metallic green that seems an unusual color, but is beautifully finished. The front grill consists of seven separate photo etch parts which is rarely seen in factory built models. Only problem I could point out is the mirror part of door mirror assembly is not separated, but that is very minor one. I got this model less than $150, but I would be still happy if I have paid more than $200.

Bugatti Type 57 by Looksmart

またまたLooksmartです。ついにブガッティまでリリースされるようになりました。ブガッティのモデルといったら私が真っ先に思い浮かぶのは Heco Miniatures ですが、それに比べても遜色ない出来だと思います。黒いボディの塗装が美しいです。この手の車に興味のある方なら買って損はないと思いますよ。

後の車の元ネタはわかりませんが、前のオープンの車はかのラルフ・ローレン氏の所有する車です。氏のコレクションに関する本 Speed, Style And Beauty によると、1937年製で、Type 57SC (ショートホイールベース＋スーパーチャージャー) のシャーシに、ガングロフ製のボディを架装したものだそうです。

それにしてもラルフ・ローレン氏のコレクションはすごいですね。ブガッティ T57 アトランティーク、アルファロメオ８Ｃ２９００ミッレミリア、フェラーリ２５０ＧＴＯ・ＬＭ・ＳＷＢ、ポルシェ５５０スパイダーなどなど、見ていてため息が出てくる車ばかりです。数年前にボストン美術館で氏のコレクションを展示してましたが、見に行く機会がありませんでした。カリフォルニア辺りでまた展示会をしてくれたら絶対見に行くんですけどねえ。

Looksmart started releasing models of Bugatti. Heco Miniatures releases a lot of fine bugatti models, and Looksmart ones look as good as theirs at half the price. The black paint is very smooth and nicely done. I would recommend these models for anyone who likes these cars.

I don't know anything about the coupe model, but the convertible is Ralph Lauren's car. According to the book Speed, Style And Beauty, the car was built in 1937, with Type 57SC (short wheelbase with supercharged engine) chassis and the body built by Gangloff.

BTW Mr. Lauren's collection is magnificent. The collection includes Bugatti T57 Atlantic, Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 Mille Miglia, Ferrari 250 GTO / LM / SWB, Porsche 550 Spider. There was an exhibition of his collection at Boston Museum of Fine Arts few years ago, but I didn't have chance to visit. I hope there will be another somewhere in west coast.

Ferrari 575 GTZ by Looksmart

この間買ったモデルです。実車が発表になった当時はあまり気にも留めてなかったのですが、モデルが発売になって写真を見ると結構格好いいじゃないですか。個人的にはフェイスがちょっと癖のある感じがしますが、それもまたこの車の個性を出しているような気がします。大きな格子状のグリルがアストンマーチンAR1を連想させます。

それにしてもこのクオリティで$120 とは、いつもながら Looksmart はすごいと思います。同じ車のキットを持ってたとしても、自分で作る気が無くなってしまいます。

My latest purchase. I wasn't very interest in this car when it was released last year. But it looked pretty when I saw the picture of the model. The face of the car is bit out of my taste, but it makes the car very unique. The big grill lattice reminds me of Aston Martin AR1.

Models from Looksmart always impresse me because of very good quality fpr the price. I don't think I'm going to build even if I had kit of the car.

LookSmart #2

じつはさらに２台買ってます。Alfa Romeo 1900C Sprint Cabriolet 1954 と、Alfa Romeo 2000 Sprint Cabriolet Bertone です。両方とも実車は知らないのですが、美しい車だと思います。

1/43 モデルカーの魅力のひとつとして、車種の多様さが挙げられると思います。こういったマイナーな車（私が知らないだけかも）がモデル化されるのも 1/43 ならではないでしょうか。Ferrari 400i GTO も然り、こんな車もあったんだー、なんて発見があるのも楽しみの一つです。

ところで VW カルマンギア (1959-1974)、1900C のデザインによく似てます。

And actually I got two more - Alfa Romeo 1900C Sprint Cabriolet 1954 and Alfa Romeo 2000 Sprint Cabriolet Bertone. I don't know about these cars, but they look beautiful.

I think vast variety of cars is one of the fascinating aspects of 1/43rd model car. Models of such obscure cars (at least to me) wouldn't appear in other scales. It's fun to find these hidden gems, like I did Ferrari 400i GTO.

BTW VW Karmann Ghia (1959-1974) looks very similar to 1900C.

LookSmart

で、息子には＄１．５０のミニカーで、お父さんは＄１００のミニカーです。

LookSmart のモデルで、昨年に中国を１５０００マイルをツアーした２台のフェラーリ６１２です。ボンネットのドラゴンや、ボディーの漢字がとてもエキゾチックです。フェラーリの「法拉利」とか、シェルの「売牌」とか、中国語の表記も面白いです。

以前に作った BBR のキットと比べてみると、BBR の方がメリハリが効いた造形でかっこいいです。BBR の完成品の方がずっと高いので、当然ですかね。横に並べて比べなければ LookSmart も十分かっこいいです。値段と品質のバランスの点で LookSmart は好きなメーカーのひとつです。

So my son got $1.50 toy car while his father got $100 toy cars.

These are the models of Ferrari 612 by LookSmart which toured 15000 miles in China last year. The dragon on the hood and the Chinese writings on the body looks exotic. The Chinese translations of "Ferrari" or "Shell" are also interesting to me (Chinese uses Chinese characters to mimic the sound of foreign words, while Japanese uses Katakana for the same purpose)

Compared to the BBR kit I built, BBR kit has clearer edges and better body shape overall. It makes sense as BBR factory built model is more expensive compared to the one of LookSmart. But LookSmart's model looks good enough too. I like their models because the quality is very good for the money.
