Sage's car

新しい家に引っ越して５ヶ月、ようやく前の家が売れました。実際には修理に2ヶ月、売り出し始めてから買い手が見つかるまでに２ヶ月、買い手が見つかってから家の検査や手続きやらで1ヶ月でした。希望価格より低い値段になってしまいましたが、サブプライムローン問題でアメリカ中が大変な時に、無事に売れただけでも御の字です。

写真は今回の家の売買の担当をしてもらった Sage Claigh さんの Chrysler Crossfire です。この辺りでもあまり見かけない珍しい車です。車を運転するのは好きだそうで、ずっと以前にはマーコスや TVR なんて、英国車の集いでもなかなかお目にかかれないような車にも乗っていたそうです。

It's been five month since we moved, and finally our previous house is sold. First we moved to new house, then two months were spent for repair, two months before we got an offer, then a month for closing. Although we didn't get offer with full price, we're glad that the house is sold when the housing market in US is in trouble.

The picture is Chrysler Crossfire which is the car of our real estate agent Sage Cleigh. She likes driving and used to drive rare cars such as Marcos or TVR which I haven't seen in person in US.

The Auto Collections @ Las Vegas

先週の出張でラスベガスに行ってきました。２時間ほど時間が取れたので、Imperial Hotel にある "The Auto Collections" に行ってきました。

下調べをしてなかったので、どんな車があるのか知りませんでしたが、興味深い車がたくさん展示してあってとても楽しかったです。Bugatti T57、Delahaye 135MS、Arnolt-Bristol Roadster、Ferrai 500 Superfast、Alfa Romeo 6C 2500、Maybach Sport Speedster などはじめて見る車だらけです。カメラをもっていくのを忘れたのが非常に残念です。

ここの展示車のほとんどが売り出しに出てます。ウェブサイトでは展示のみとなってますが、私のもっとも好きな車のひとつ Alfa Romeo GTV も売りに出てました。でもお値段が $95000 と非常に高いです。相場を良く知りませんがこんなに高いんですか？

とにかくいろいろな車が見れて楽しかったです。営業時間は朝9:30から夜9:30までですが、展示場の一角は５時（実際には4時半くらい）でしまってしまうのでご注意を。私は知らずに行ってぎりぎり間に合いましたが、危うくブガッティ様との初対面を逃すところでした。入場料は大人$6.95ですが、ウェブサイトに無料入場券があるので、印刷して持って行くのをお忘れなく。

I went to Las Vegas for a business trip. I had a few free hours at the last day, so I visited "The Auto Collections" at Imperial Hotel.

I didn't research beforehand, so it was nice surprise that they have lots of exotic and interesting cars. There are lots of cars I've never seen before - Bugatti T57, Delahaye 135MS, Arnolt-Bristol Roadster, Ferrari 500 Superfast, Alfa Romeo 6C 2500, Maybach Sport Speedster to name a few. I kick myself for not bringing my camera!

Most of the cars are for sale. 。Alfa Romeo GTV, one of my most favorite car was also for sale, although it's shown as display only on their web site. But the asking price is $95000. I'm not sure about the market price, but is the car that expensive?

I could have spent whole day there. They open from 9:30AM till 9:30PM, but note that one of the rooms closes around 4:30PM. The admission fee is $6.95 for adult. But you can get free admission ticket at their web site, so don't forget to bring it with you.

ZENN

Samrai Noodle で食事した後にすぐ近くのガソリンスタンドでガソリンを入れてたら、見慣れない車を発見。なにこれ？フェンダーには「ZENN」のロゴが入ってます。家に帰って調べたら、Feel Good Cars という会社の電気自動車でした。へー、めずらしいー。で、スペックを調べてみましたが、２シーターで最高時速25マイル(40キロ)、航続距離35マイル(56キロ)。うーん、アメリカで一般的に使われるにはまだまだですね。今後の発展に期待しましょう。

後日近くを通る機会があったときに MC Electric Vehicles という会社を見つけました。ここからきてたんですね。でも電気自動車がガソリンスタンドでいったい何の用事だったんだろ。

After having dinner at Samurai Noodle, I was filling up my car at nearby gas station, where I found a strange car. There's a plaque on front fender saying "ZENN". I still had no idea, so I searched the net and found it's an electric vehicle by Feel Good Cars. The car is two-seater, 25 mph maximum and runs about 35 miles on one charge. Hmm, I guess it needs be better before it can be used by public in USA.

Later I found a company MC Electric Vehicles near the gas station. The car must be from the dealer. But I wonder what the EV was doing at the gas station?

Ultima GTR

アイスクリーム屋に子供らをつれて行こうと出かけたら、普段通勤に使ってる道の横に見慣れない車が。車を停めてみると、Ultima GTR じゃないですか！なぜこんなところに？オーナーさんが友達と話してたので、聞いてみると最近手に入れたとのこと。ちゃんとナンバープレート(後ろだけ)がついていて、公道を走れるようになってました。時間もなかったし、マクラーレンF1 とタメ張れる車、くらいしか車に関して知らなかったんで、詳しい話は聞きませんでした。

外出から帰ってきてデジカメをもってもう一度行ってみると、まだ停まってましたが、時間が遅くて暗くなってろくな写真が取れませんでした。残念。

I found some unusual looking car on my way to an ice cream shop for my kids. I took a close look and it was Ultima GTR! I had chance to talk to the owner and he got recently acquired the car. It's registered and street legal. I didn't have much time (especially my kids were waiting) and I didn't know much about this car except its performance matches to one of McLaren F1, so I didn't ask him about the details of the car or how he bought it.

After I was back at home, I grabbed my camera and hurried back to the car. The car was still there, but it was late in the evening and too dark to take good pictures. Bummer.

Japanese Classic Car Museum in Fukuoka

妻の実家が福岡にあって、日本にいる間の数日間滞在していました。

志賀島の休暇村に一泊した後、海の中道公園に妻の両親と家族とで行きました。企画は妻の両親にお任せで何も下調べせずに行ったのですが、中に「日本の名車歴史館」というのを見つけました。しばらく家族を大切にする父親を演じていましたが、妻が察してくれて「いってきていいよ」といってくれたので、みんなほったらかしにしていってきました。

説明にありましたが、展示車両のほとんどは稼動できる状態にあるんだそうです。展示車の排気管にチューブがついていて床下に通じているのは、保守のためにエンジンをたまに回してやるということなんでしょうね、きっと。

この辺の車はあまり詳しくないのですが、コスモスポーツや、フェアレディ、S800、スバル360、ミゼットなど私でも知っているような車もたくさんあって楽しめました。写真はこちらです。

We visited wife's parents house in Fukuoka for several days while I was in Japan. Wife's parents took us to Umino-nakamichi Sea Side Park. It's a huge park and there are some rides such as roller coaster or big Ferris wheel. Among them there's a car museum housing Japanese classic cars from '50s to '70s.

Most of the cars on display can run. There are tubes connected to the exhaust pipes and they go thorugh the floorboard. I guess they are there so that the motors can be run while the cars stay inside for maintenance.

I'm not too familier with these cars, but there are fairly famous cars such as Mazda Cosmo Sports, Datsun Fairlady, Honda S800, Subaru 360, Daihatsu Midget etc. The pictures are here.

Jaguar XK 150

先日会社の駐車場に変わった車を発見。近づいてみるとジャガー XK 150 ではないですか！おぉを、なぜこんなところに！？
次の日カメラを持っていったら、また来ていたので写真をいくつか撮りました。ボディはだいぶ痛んでましたが、内装はレストアされているらしく、ショーコンディションでした。ボンネットの塗装がはがされて磨かれているので、レストアの途中のようです。
かっこいいなあ。ロードスターバージョンだけど、AMR のキット持ってます。いつか作らねばなりますまい。
シアトルでは All British Field Meet という英国車がたくさん見れるイベントが毎年夏にあります。この車もそこでまた見れるかもしれません。

One day I found rather unusual car in the parking lot of my company. Wow, it's a Jaguar XK 150! Hey, why is this here!?
I brought my camera next day. Fortunately the car was there again, so I could take some pictures. The body is pretty beaten up, but the interior looks restored and as beautiful as show car. I guess it's being restored since the paint of engine hood is stripped and it's being sanded.
Such a cool looking car. I have an kit of roadster by AMR. Someday I hope I have time to build it.
Every summer we have an event "All British Field Meet" in Seattle where lots of old British cars can be seen. I may be able to see this car again at the meeting.
