F1 driver figures by Craft10

しばらく前に eBay で、Craft10 という会社が出している F1 ドライバーのフィギュアを見つけました。ネットを検索してもほとんど情報がありませんでしたが、ためしに 1/43 のセナとシューマッハを買ってみました。写真はこちらです。フィギュアに関してまったく知識はないのですが、とてもよくできてると思います。複数のスケールで同じフィギュアを出しているので、CAD か何か使っているのかと思いましたが、出品者に聞いたところ手彫りなのだそうで。すっげー。

Yahoo のメールグループなどにメールを出してみましたが、思いのほか反応悪かったです。皆さんあまりフィギュアには興味ないですかね？

While ago at eBay I found figures of F1 drivers produced by Craft10. I couldn't find information in internet but I took a chance and bought the figures of Senna and Schumacher in 1/43 scale. The pictures of the figures are here. I have no knowledge about figures but they look very good. I thought they used CAD to create the master patterns since they release the same figure in multiple scales. But Craft10 told me these figures are hand carved. Very impressive skill!

I posted to Yahoo mail group about these figures but got very little response, kind of surprise to me. I guess not many modelers are interested in figures?

Ferrari Enzo / MB SLR McLaren by FLINE

久々のキットネタです。先日 eBay で落札した 1/43 のエンツォとメルセデス SLR のフルディテールキットです。メーカーは FLINE となってますが、中国のメーカーらしいこと以外はまったくわかりません。キットで 60 ドル、完成品で 130 ドル前後と1/43 のフルディテールモデルでは尋常ならぬ安さです。半信半疑で買ってみましたが、結論から言いますととてもよいキットではないかと思います。

パーツの確認も含めて仮組みしましたが、かっちりとしたモールド、パーツの合いもとても正確で、あたかもプラモデルキットのようです。ウィンドウ類の透明パーツはよく見られる塩ビバキュームではなく、(たぶん)透明レジンでできてます。エッチングパーツを磨いたのではないかと思しきミラー面のパーツもついてます。ダボを多用している点や透明パーツがバキュームでない点など、ダイキャストモデルのノウハウがある会社が設計したような雰囲気があります。

難点としては
- パーツのチェックは必須。私の場合、エンツォで一個、SLR で三個、パーツがない、または左パーツが２つで右がないとかありました。これからパーツ請求の予定です。
- 説明書にパーツ番号が書いてあるのはいいのですが、部品の一覧図がないので、実際に組んでみるまでどのパーツがどの番号なのかよくわかりません。

この内容でこの価格、個人的にはとても「買い」だと思います。エンツォとSLRのほか、ランボルギーニ・レヴェントンの完成品とキットもあります。またFLINEとは明記されてませんが、eBay にポルシェ・カレラGT のフルディテールの完成品も 130 ドル前後で売られているので、そのうちキットも出るのではないかと期待してます。

Recently I've purchased 1/43 full detail kit of Ferrari Enzo and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren at eBay. The description says the maker is FLINE, but I have no information about this company other than that they are in China. The price of the kit (60 USD) and the factory built model (130 USD) is unusually cheap for 1/43 full detail model. I took a chance to buy a couple of kits, and it turned out they are really good kits.

I did dry-fitting while I check for any missing parts. With crisp mold and excellent parts fit, these kits are more like regular injection kit than typical 1/43 one. The clear parts such as windows are not typical vac-formed one either but made of clear resin (I think). The kit even includes shiny tiny mirrors that look like polished PE parts. I wonder if the maker has experience in designing die-cast models.

There are a couple of shortcomings.
- You want to make sure all parts are there. In my case Enzo has one and SLR has three missing or incorrect parts (such as two left side parts and no right side one). I'll see if I can get the missing parts from the seller.
- Since the instruction sheet doesn't include the parts chart, it took some time for me to figure out the parts and their numbers that appear in the instructions.

With this contents and the price these kits are good buy in my opinion. There is also the factory built model and the kit of Lamborghini Reventon. I also see Porsche Carrera GT factory built models at eBay, but no kit. I hope the kit is available soon.

Pictures of Bosica Speedster kit

一月の終わりころに Lost Models のスピードスターキットの予約を入れました。２週間くらいでキットの写真を送ってくるという話でしたが、いつまで経ってもこないので催促のメールを出したら、写真を送ってきてくれました。同じころにほかの人も写真を受け取ったらしく、Miniwerk.com のフォーラムに投稿がありました。私のうけとった写真以外のものもあります。

メールによるとプロジェクトは完成間近で、ウェブサイトももうすぐ再開されるということですが、果たしてどうなりますことやら。

I got in the waiting list for Bosica Speedster kit by Lost Models at the end of January. They said they'll send me the pictures of kit in two weeks but I haven't heard back from them. Few days ago I sent another mail to request pictures, and finally they sent me these pictures. Someone also posted these pictures (plus few extras I don't have) to Miniwerks.com forum.

According to the mail I received, the project is almost finished and their site will be soon avaialble. Let's see how it will go...

Two Speedster kits

ポルシェ３５６スピードスターのキットに関する話題を２つ。

その１：しばらく前にいくつかの英語の1/43フォーラムで話題になってましたが、ロストモデルス という会社がボシカのキットの生産のライセンスを取って、その第一弾として今年の4月ごろにスピードスターのキットをリリースするということです。本当なら大ニュースですね。ただし、新しい会社で誰も実態を知らないようなので、まずは価格や支払い方法などをメールで問い合わせてみています。

その２：ミニワークスからピラニアモデルス製のスピードスターのキット(写真)が近日再リリースされます。ミニワークスのオーナー、マコーミック氏によると、フェニックスのキットよりもボディ形状がよくなっているとのことです。日本ではラクーンからも購入可能のようです。今回が最終生産ということなので、お見逃し無く。

Two topics regarding to kit of Porsche 356 Speedster.

Part 1: There have been discussions in multiple 1/43 model forums about the company Lost Models. According to their site, they've got a deal with Mr. Bosica so that they can re-produce and sell his kits. The first one will be Porsche 356 Speedster due in April 2009. This will be a big news if it's for real. The problem is no one seems to know who they are. I've sent email to Lost Models asking price, payment methods etc.

Part 2: Soon Miniwerks will release the last batch of Speedster kit(pictures) which is manufactured by Piranha Models. According to Mr. McCormick, the owner of Miniwerks, the body is in more accurate shape compared to one of Le Phoenix kit. The kit will be available through Raccoon in Japan too. Again this is the last lot, so don't miss it!

A holiday card from Tin Wizard

今年の何時だか忘れてしまいましたが、ドイツの Tin Wizard からキットを２つ買いました。そしたら数日前にエッチングのトナカイつきのクリスマスカードがとどきました。模型屋さんからクリスマスカードをもらったのは初めてですが、気が利いてますね。

買ったキットですが、ひとつは Enco Models というメーカーの Jensen Interceptor のメタルキット。もうひとつは PE43 というメーカーの Borgward Hansa 1500 Rometsch です。Interceptor はメジャーな車なので、資料には困らなさそうですが、Borgward のほうはかなりレアな車なのか、ネットで探してもここひとつしか見つかりませんでした。まあ本当に作るかどうか怪しいのでいらぬ心配ですわな。Rometsch は 1950 年代あたりのコーチビルダーですが、VW ベースの Beeskow が有名ですね。

Sometime earlier this year I bought two kits from Tin Wizard. Then they sent me a holiday card with photo-etched reindeer. I like this nice little gift.

One of the kit I bought is Jensen Interceptor metal kit by Enco models. The other is Borgward Hansa 1500 Rometsch by PE43. There should be a lots of references on the net for the Jensen, but I could find only one photo for the Borgward. It seems quite rare car. I guess I should worry about the references when I build it (if it ever happens). Rometsch was a coach builder around 1950's and one of their famous car was VW-based Beeskow.

Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale Kit is here!

発売されてから２ヶ月くらい経ちましたが、私の元にもようやくやってまいりました、モデルファクトリーヒロ(MFH)のアルファロメオ・ティーポ３３・ストラダーレのキットです。キットの写真はこちらです。MFH のサイトには完成写真が載ってますね。普通に Hobby Link Japan などで買えばいいのに、何を勘違いしたかイタリアのディーラーに注文してしまったので、日本 > イタリア > アメリカと地球を大回りして入手までに相当時間がかかりました。

キットは４灯のプロトタイプをモデルにしたもので、リアカウルのみ開閉可能です。ワイパーがフロントウィンドウの上からぶら下がる形になっているのと、リアホイールの後ろにグリルがないので、１９６７年発表当時をモデル化しているようです。

白いレジンで形成されたボディは大理石の裸婦像といった趣でセクシーです。ミニチャンプスのダイキャストミニカーやそのほか参考資料の写真などと比べると、ボディ中央が結構絞られているように見えますが、それはそれでかっこいいので気にはなりません。残念なのはドアパネルやセンターコンソールなどの内装がなく、完成後もボディとシャーシをねじ止めするための無骨な柱みたいなものが見えてしまいます。完成後もボディを取り外してシャーシが見れるようにするために内装は省略したのでしょうか？

１時間くらいかけて、ホワイトメタルパーツを合わせながら組み立ての流れを追ってみました。MFH のキットは初めてですが、うわさどおりすごいですね。ホワイトメタルパーツの合いもよく、見えなくなってしまうシリンダーヘッドのバルブ類までモールドされてます。エッチングパーツ挽きものてんこ盛りで、洋白線やステンレスパイプも入っていて、ディテールアップに必要なものはたいていキットに含まれてます。２８０００円と普通のインジェクションキットの１０倍はするいいお値段ですが、１／４３キットなどと比べてこの内容ならお買い得だと思います（だから４３は流行らないのか）。なによりもこの美しい車をキット化してくれた MFH に感謝です。後はいつになったら作れるかなのですが...

Finally I received the kit of Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale by Model Factory Hiro two months after the release. Here are the pictures of the kit. MFH web site has the pictures of built models. For some reason I ordered it from a dealer in Italy when I could just order it from shops in Japan (what I was thinking?), such as Hobby Link Japan. That's why it took so long for delivery.

The kit is for the prototype that has four headlights. Whole rear body opens up, but other panels don't. It seems the kit is based on the car when it made its debut in 1967, because of the way the wiper is attached and there's no vent behind the rear wheel.

The body is made of white resin, which makes it look like a sexy marble statue. The body seems bit too narrow in the middle compared to Minichamp's diecast model or reference pictures I have, but it's not too bothering either. The letdown is the kit is missing most of interior such as door panels or center console. As the result, the finished model will expose unfinished surfaces in the cockpit. The chassis and body are to be screwed together, so I wonder MFH omitted interior parts so that body and chassis can be detached easily.

I spent about an hour to go through the instruction with dry fitting white metal parts. This is my first MFH kit and it's excellent one as people have been praising. The while metal parts fit very well and has detail moldings even for valves in cylinder head. The kit has all kinds of detailing parts - lots of turned and photo etched parts, stainless tubes and nickel-silver wires etc. With a price tag of 28000 yen, it's no cheap kit. But compared to 1/43rd kits, this kits has quite a value (and that's why 1/43 kits aren't popular I guess). Finally I'd like to thank MFH to release great kit of this beautiful car at long last. Now the question is when I'll have time to work on this...

Porsche Speedster kit

先日 eBay で見たフェニックスのポルシェ356スピードスターのキットですが、エンジン無しのキットで $625 とはすごい値段ですね。もったいなくて作れませんな。まさにコレクターアイテム。完成写真はカミムラさんのサイトから持ってきたものみたいです。

ところで 43 のスピードスターのキットってフェニックス以外にどこか出してたんでしょうか？写真はプレシジョン・ミニチュアズのアメリカロードスター(スピードスターの元になった車)のキットとミニチャンプスのダイキャストモデルです。キットはご覧のとおりヘッドライトからグリルまで全てボディのモールドになっていて、現在のダイキャストモデルに見劣りしないように仕上げるには相当手間がかかりそうです。シャーシには1978年製とあるので、無理もないですね。

Here's a kit of Porsche 356 Speedster by Le Phoenix auctioned at eBay. The winning bit was $625 which is extremely high for a curb side (engine-less) kit. I guess it'll be a part of someone's kit collection and never to be built. The pictures of the finished model seem came from Mr. Kamimura's site.

I wonder if there was any other maker who produced 1/43rd kit of this car. The picture shown here is a kit of Porsche America Roadster (ancestor of Speedster) by Precision Miniatures and a die-cast model of Speedster by Minichamps. As you can see all details such as the headlamps or the grills are directly molded into the body. The kit is produced in 1978 according to the writing on the chassis. It'll take lots of work to make it into descent model compared to the today's die-cast model standards.

Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale by Model Factory Hiro

今日 Scale Designs の Tom Tanner さん(Ferrari Expo のモデルコンテストの主催者)からメールをもらって知りましたが、モデルファクトリーヒロから Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale のキットが発売になるそうですね。いやーすばらしい！以前にフジミのキットを買って沈没しましたが、ようやくちゃんとしたキットが入手できるようになりそうです。
ウェブサイトに載っている写真ではヘッドライトが４灯のプロトタイプみたいですが、生産型もそのうちリリースされるんですかね？とにかく楽しみにしてます。

I got mail from Tom Tanner @ Scale Designs (the organizer of the model contest at Ferrari Expo) telling Model Factory Hiro is going to release the kit of Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale. This is a great news! I bought a Fujimi kit while ago which was not up to my expectation, but finally we'll have decent (more likely an excellent) kit!
The pictures at their page shows a model of prototype that has four headlamps. I'm expecting that they'll release production version too. I can't wait to get one (and build it)!

AMR Ferrari GTO 64 droite Kit

Ferrari Expo での戦利品です。今回は実車とモデルコンテストの写真にかかりっきりで、メインの会場の商品をあまりチェックしてませんでした。それでも AMR の フェラーリ 250GTO '64 の開封済みキットを＄85で入手。Droite は右ハンドルってことみたいです。シャーシの裏にはフランスフェラーリクラブのために作成、といったフランス語のメッセージがあります。ところでシャーシの左にある丸に"Ah"(?)のマークは何でしょう？

I got this kit at Ferrari Expo. I spend most of the time on taking pictures of real and model cars, and didn't have much time on checking the sellers' tables. I still manage to get AMR Ferrari 250 GTO 64 kit for $85 (box opened). The writing on the chassis says "model produced for Ferrari Club of France" in French. Does anyone know what the sign that looks like "Ah" in a circle mean?

Three Ferrari 250 GTO kits

前回からずいぶん間が開いてしまいました。Heesop さんが来たときに比べてみていた GTO のキットです。左から順に Andre-Marie RUF, Superior (Make Up), BBR です。AMR はかなり幅広でがっちりした感じ、BBR は逆にかなり幅が狭く、ほっそりしてます。Superior は前は AMR と同じくらいの幅で後端は BBR よりも狭く、かなり尻すぼみな印象です。単品で見ればそれぞれ 250GTO に見えますが、並べてみるとかなり形が違いますね。

よく知られているとは思いますが、Superior はフルディテールキットで、ものすごい数のパーツと電気鋳造によるニッケル製のボディが特徴です。ボディの厚さは0.1-0.2mmくらいでしょうか、ほかの素材では考えられない薄さですが、非常に頑丈です。また薄いのでシャーシを入れても、レジン製の BBR のボディよりもずっと軽いです。これでもかというくらいの力の入ったキットですが、実際に完成させられる人はどれくらいいるんでしょうね。私自身いつか作ることができるのか疑問ですが。

It's been a while since the last update. Here's the picture of the kits of Ferrari 250 GTO which I showed to Heesop. From left to right, the maker of the kits are Andre-Marie RUF, Superior (Make Up) and BBR. AMR looks wide and sturdy, BBR is much narror in width. Superior is about same width with AMR at front wheel but the tail end is narrower than BBR, which seems odd to me. They are model for the same car but look fairly different.

The famous Superior kit is full-detailed one with huge number of parts and nickel body which is created by electroforming process. The thickness (or thinness) of the body is about 0.1-0.2mm that probably can be only achieved by electroforming. It's amazingly sturdy and light. The body shell and the chassis of Superior kit are lighter than BBR's body shell. It's an amazing kit. I wonder how many people including myself can finish this model.
