Moved to new web site hosting service

メインのウェブサイト(http://shibuyas.com/43)のホストティングサービスとして長らく Network Solutions を使ってましたが、いろいろ不都合が出てきたので、新しいホスト (Arvixe.com) に引越ししました。ホスティングサービスの切り替えはスムーズに行く予定でしたが、ちょっとミスをして一時表示できないページができてしまいました。現在引越し完了しているはずですが、もし見つからないページや表示されない写真などありましたら、本サイト左上にあるメールアドレスまでご連絡ください。

I've been using Network Solutions as the hosting service for the main web site (http://shibuyas.com/43). But recently I have few problem with the service, so I switched to a new service (Arvixe.com). The switch were supposed to be transparent, but I made some mistakes and pages were unavailable for a while earlier today. The switch should be completed now. I appreciate if you can notify me at the email address if you find any missing pages / pictures.

Jacques Brauer's home was lost by fire

Miniwerks.com のフォーラムを見ていたら、オーナーのマイク・マコーミック氏の投稿があり、モデルビルダーのジャック・ブラウアー氏（発音違ってたら教えてください）が火事に遭って、所持品のほとんどが失われてしまったということです。階下の店からの出火だったそうです。

PayPal を通しての募金の呼びかけがあったので、私も小額を送りました。ブラウアー氏から返事が来て、昨日から模型作りの作業を再開したとのことでした。ブラウアーさんお大事に。

I found a post by Mike at Miniwerks telling that a master model builder Jacques Brauer has lost his home and most of the belongings by fire.

Mike suggested making donation through PayPal, so I sent a small amount to Jacques. I got reply from him saying he resumed working on models yesterday. Best of luck to him.

Masaaki Sakai in Mille Miglia

今作ってるフェラーリ250モンツァの資料探しに 2008/2009 年のミッレミリアのビデオを YouTube で探していたら、なんだか見たことのある顔を発見（2分30秒あたり）。タレントの堺正章氏でした。写真（その１、その２）も見つかりました。確かに彼は古いイタ車のファンで、マセラティ150S などに乗ってるという話を聞きました。その昔は金斗雲に乗ってましたね（笑）。Born from an egg on a mountain top、ゴダイゴ懐かしー。肝心のモンツァの映像は見つかりませんでした。

この記事の写真は 1936年 Fiat 508 バリッラ ベルリネッタのダイキャストモデルです。Hachette というブランドからミッレミリアの出場車のモデルがリリースされてますが、そのうちのひとつ。製造元は台座の裏側の刻印によると Starline Models です。

While I was browsing YouTube for 2008 & 2009 Mille Miglia in whcih Ferrari 250 Monza participated, I found a familiar face (about 2:30 into the video). He's a Japanese actor Masaaki Sakai. Here are a couple of his pictures (picture 1 / picture 2). He's a big fan of Italian classic racers and regular participant of Mille Miglia. But I remember him best by the Japanese TV show "Saiyuki" (Monkey) in late 70's. He was riding on the cloud as the Monkey instead of Italian racers :)

The picture of this post is a die-cast model of 1936 Fiat 508 Balilla Berlinetta. It's one of the Mille Miglia car models by Hachette brand. According to the writing on the back of the display base, it's produced by Starline Models.

Kamakura

大人はいいことありません、なんて書きましたが、昔から作ってみたかったかまくら（知らなかったけど本当は雪室っていうんですね）を作りました。普段まったく運動してないので、一日一時間、三日かかりました。大人なら一人、子供なら二人くらい入れます。モデルは３歳の長男です。

シアトルでかまくらが作れるとは思っても見ませんでした。来週からやっと暖かく（セ氏５度くらい）なるので雪ともお別れです。

Well I just realized I'm only a big kid, so I went ahead and made a snow house (often called as Kamakura but it's actually the name of an event of northen area). Since I'm so out of shape it took three days, an hour per day. One adult or two kids can fit inside. It's my three years old son in the picture.

It's expected that we have warmer days (40F) next week, so the snow should be finally gone.

Clay miniatures by Elayne Watrus

１０月４、５日にイサクア市で開催されたサーモン・フェスティバルに行ってきました。いろいろな出店がある中、かわいらしい置物をたくさん売っているお店がありました。作者は Elanye Watrus さん。彼女のウェブサイトはこちらです。

素材は FIMO というポリマークレイ（オーブンで焼き固める粘土）だそうです。手のひらに載る大きさがちょうど 1/43 モデルのようで、細かいところまでよくできています。アリスの不思議な国や、オズの魔法使いなどの有名な話の題材のものから、オリジナルのものまで大小あわせて１００以上あったと思います。

季節柄ハロウィンやクリスマス物も多くありまして、その中からこの２つを買ってきました。ドラえもん顔の黒猫の目、耳、背中のお化けは蛍光で、暗いところでほのかに光ります。

I went to the Salmon Festival held on October 4th and 5th in Issaquah city. Among various booths, there was one filled with small handmade miniatures. Elanyne Watrus is the artist. Here's the link to her site.

The miniatures are made of FIMO, polymer clay which is to be baked in oven to cure. The palm-top size is about same as a 1/43rd model cars. It's impressive to see such details in a clay miniature. There are probably over 100 miniatures from her originals to ones based on famous stories such as Alice in Wonderland or Wizard of Oz.

There are also lots of seasonal miniatures, and I pick these two out of them. The ears and eyes of the cat and the ghost glows in the dark.

Medieval Martial Arts in Seattle

シアトルでは朝晩冷えるようになってきて早くも秋の訪れを感じますが、皆様いかがお過ごしでしょうか。

８月中ごろにシアトルのガス・ワークス・パークという公園に行きました。バンド演奏などやっていましたが、公園の隅で謎の甲冑軍団がいました。何かの見世物？妻が聞きに行ったところ、中世の格闘術の研究をしている同好会の練習なんだそうです。武器や防具は全部自分たちで作っているんだとか。世の中にはいろいろな趣味がありますなあ。

動画はこちら（YouTube デビュー）。動画の中のアジア人は右から順に、妻の父、娘、息子です。写真の親子さん、戦士たちにとてもマッチしてますが、やはり見物人です。

Sometime in mid-August, I took my family to Gas Works Park in Seattle. There was local rock band concert going on. And we found some people wearing medieval armor in one corner of the park. Who are these guys? My wife asked them and found that they were member of a club to learn and practice medieval martial arts for fun. They made the weapons and armors by themselves. There are all sorts of hobbies in the world.

I made a video clip (my first attempt on YouTube). The asian spectators are my father in law, my daughter and son (right to left). In the picture the medieval fighters seem to have very appropriate spectators.

New year greetings (and some excuses)

すっかり遅くなりましたが、あけましておめでとうございます。皆様いかがお過ごしでしょうか？

私は仕事が遅れ気味で、去年の大晦日から元旦を除いてずーっと仕事に追われています。なので今週は模型をさわる時間がまったくありませんでした。来週は通常通りに模型製作できると思います。一年のスタートラインでいきなりコケてしまいましたが、今年もよろしくお願いいたします。

去年の成果が写真一枚に収まってしまうってのも悲しいですね。毎年言っていますが、今年こそはもっと製作台数を増やせるようにがんばるぞ。

A happy new year! I hope you had a great holiday season. I've been very busy at work since new years eve, so I didn't have chance to put my hands on these models at all. It wasn't great way to start a new year, but I guess that's life. I believe I'll be able to get back on building models next week.

Look, all of my last year's effort fits in a picture! (I'm being self sarcastic, just in case) My new year's resolution is to finish more models.

鹿が出た

私の新しい家は前回の投稿の場所から車で１５分くらいのところですが、近くが野生動物保護区のような公園（といっても 3000エーカー、調べたら千代田区と同じくらいのようです）になっているので、こんなのがよく出るようです。

This is the first time I've seen a deer from my new house. My house is less than 15 minutes drive from where the picture in the last post was taken, but lots of wildlifes can be seen as there's a large (3000 acres) wildland park close by.

Growing Bellevue

私の住んでいるのは正確にはベルビュー市(Bellevue)ですが、ここ１、２年ものすごい勢いでダウンタウンの再開発が進んでいます。あちこちで地下駐車場用と思しき大穴が掘られ、いたるところでコンドミニアム（マンション）が建てられてます。写真はダウンタウンの東側からの写真ですが、建設用の大型クレーンが１０基以上見えます。

I live in Bellevue city, 10 miles east of Seattle. Recent few years, there are lots of constructions going on in the downtown of Bellevue. Lots of excavation (probably for underground parking) going on, and many new condominiums are being built. In the picture you can find more than ten large cranes.
