先々週末の IPMS ミーティングと同じ日に、シアトルの北にある Galaxy Hobby で模型のコンテストがありました。この模型店では年２回コンテストがあって、４月がミリタリー物や車などいわゆるスケールモデル、１０月がそれ以外の模型という風になってます。写真はこちらです。
４月のコンテストに出ていたネモズカーがまた展示されてました。クローム部分のウォッシングが重厚な雰囲気を出していてよいですね。キットではこの部分はメッキらしいのですが、一度メッキを落としてアルクラッドなどで塗装しているようにも見えます。お話を伺いたかったですが、残念ながら誰が作者だったのかわかりませんでした。
ほかに興味深かったのはフィギュア３体。X-men の "Wolverline 、スーパーヒーロー"Steel"、と半魚人（すいません、ぜんぜんわかりません）、すべて同じ人の作品です。それぞれ２００５年、２００３年、２００１年の最優秀賞作品だそうです。Wolverline は夢に出てきそうなくらいよくできてました。

Two weeks ago, there was a contest held at Galaxy Hobby in north Seattle. This shop hosts two contests, one in April for scale models such as military or automotive, and October for other models. Here are the pictures from the contest.
There was the Nemo's car which was in April's contest. The wash on the chrome parts gives nice effect as if they are made of metal. As far as I checked online, these parts are plated, but on the model it seems the plating is stripped then painted with some kind of metal-finishing paint such as Alclad. I wanted to ask the builder how it's done, but unfortunately I couldn't find him.
Other interesting models were three figurines / busts by same person. Wolverine from X-Men, "Steel" the superhero, and amphibian (sorry I don't know what it was) won the first prize in 2005, 2003 and 2001 respectively. I'm very impressed how realistic Wolverline looks.
