Two Jaguars by AMR

在庫の中から AMR のキットのご紹介。手前が eBay で入手した XK120 ロードスター、後ろが Grand Prix Models のセールで入手した XK150 です。両方とも開封済みなので、比較的安く入手できました。ところで私は eBay を見ているんですが、これらのキットはそれほど人気がないのか落札価格がほかのキットに比べて低いですね。普通 AMR の 250 GTO などは $100 以上でで落札されてますが、Jaguar は $100 に届かないことが多いです。逆にマセラティ Tipo 63 などは珍しいのか落札価格が $150 近くになってるみたいです。私にとっては安く入手できるのでいいことなんですが、ロードカーは人気がないんですかねえ。

XK150 のシャーシの裏側（下になる側）には手書きで、"Base: Laurent TANCRE (23.03.81)"、"Version: A.M.RUF 02/03/83!" とあります。また、上側には "Base: Tancre Modif:A.M.R Product: SD Thanks" とあります。Tancre 氏が原型で、Ruf 氏が修正を加えたということでしょうか。

今やってるポルシェが終わったら、これらにとりかかりたかったのですが、来年にシカゴである模型コンテストのテーマがブガッティなので、何かを作っていきたいと思ってます。開催日が3月17日なので、間に合うかどうかかなり怪しいですけど。

Two AMR kits from my stash. I got XK120 roadster at eBay and XK150 Coupe at Grand Prix Models. I bought them relatively cheap as the boxes have been opened. BTW these Jaguar kits don't seem as popular as others other AMR kits as far as I can tell from the bidding results at eBay. Usually 250 GTO kits fetch more than $100, but these Jaguar kits hardly reache $100. While it's good news I have less competition, I wonder road going cars are less popular compared to racing ones.

There's some handwritings on the back (downside) of XK150 chassis, such as "Base: Laurent TANCRE (23.03.81)" and "Version: A.M.RUF 02/03/83!". Also there's other handwritings saying "Base: Tancre Modif:A.M.R Product: SD Thanks" on the other side. It seems Mr. Tancre made the original master and Mr. Ruf made some modifications to it.

I was going to take one of these cars after current project is done. But instead I'm going to build some Bugatti for the model contest that will be held in Chicago on March 17th next year, though I'm not sure if I can finish it by then.

Scale Racing Cars

ポルシェ 718 F1 のコクピットの長さを決めるときに、ふと SRC のキットを持ってるのを思い出して出してみました。写真真ん中が 1961 年のフェラーリ 156、手前が 1962 年のポルシェ 804 です。

マスキングテープで仮組みしていますが、両方とも各パーツの合いがよく、手を加えなくても綺麗に組みあがります。特に 804 の方は型が新しいときに作られたのか、ほとんどバリらしいものも見当たりません。エッチングパーツがなく、ほとんどのパーツがホワイトメタルですが、いいキットだと思います。156 のほうはこちらのお方が作られてます。素晴らしいですね。私もそのうちこいつらを作って並べてみたいな。

When I was working on stretching cockpit, I reminded I had few SRC kits of the cars from this period, so I pull them out of my stash. The middle car is 1961 Ferrari 156 and the front one is Porsche 804.

I'm dry fitting them using masking tape. In both kits the parts fit very well with little preparation. Especially Porsche 804 has virtually no flash. I guess my copy is casted in early production when the mold was still in good shape. Both kits have no photo-etch parts and almost all parts are white metal, but I think these are good kits. This guy has built a really nice model of Ferrari 156. Someday I want to build them too.

Fujimi 1/16 Alfa T33

先月に買ったフジミ 1/16 シリーズをネットで調べていたら、私の一番好きな車、Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale がラインナップされているではないですか！ネットを探し回って www.hlj.com に在庫があるのを発見、早速購入しました。商品の到着を待つ間、北澤さんの BBS に書き込みをしたところ、そのキット似てないよ、とのご回答。到着したキットは果たして似てませんでした。

ここにキットの写真を載せました。一番最後に比較のための 1/43 のダイキャストモデルやキットの写真も入れてあります。ぱっと見た印象は「ぺったんこ」。ウィンドウ部分が低すぎるみたいです。横から見ると、レースカーの Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2 Daytona の輪郭にとてもよく似てます。どうやら基本のフォルムはデイトナで、外見をストラダーレに無理やりあわせると、このキットのボディになるみたいです。またホイールも奥行きがなく平坦で、ボディとホイールはちょっと使い物にならないですね。まだ調べてませんが、臓物系はレースカーと共通なはずなので使えるかも知れません。

それにしても実車が世に出て30年以上、フジミとテクノモデル以外に現在手に入るキットはないのでしょうか。せっかく美しい車なんだから、もっとキットが出てもよさそうなものなんですが。

I was researching 1/16 Fujimi Enthusiast Series of which I bought Porsche 959 kit last month and found there's a kit of my most favorite car Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale! I searched around and found www.hlj.com has stock, so I immedieately ordered one. While I was waiting for the kit to arrive I posted comment to the BBS of Mr. Kitazawa's web site. He replied me "sorry, but the kit doesn't look like the real car." Bad news for me, he was right.

Here are the pictures of the kit. There are few picures of 1/43 diecast models and kits for comparison purpose. The first impression was it looks really flat. The height of the windows looks too short. The side view is very similar to Alfa Romeo 33/2 Daytona. It seems the kit has the profile of 33/2 Daytona with the details of 33/2 Stradale. The wheels lack depth and don't look good either. I wouldn't hesitate to throw away the body and the wheels. If this kit is designed based on 33/2 Daytona, the mechanical stuff such as engine, transmission, suspension and frames still can be used since Daytona an Stradale are supposed to be using same running gear.

It's been more than 30 years since the car was produced, yet only two kits has been released (Fujimi and Tecnomodel) as far as I know. I believe the car deserves more attention for its beauty.

Fujimi 1/16 Porsche 959

IPMS Seattle の月一回のミーティングでは、自分のストックのキットの中から余分なものを売っている人もいます。先週末のミーティングで目に留まったのがこれ。フジミのエンスージアストシリーズの 1/24 のキットは持っているのですが、1/16 もリリースしていたのは知りませんでした。

売値は２０ドル。相場を知らずに買いましたが、だいぶ安く入手できたみたいです。箱に 3800 と書いてあるのが当時の定価だったんですかね。当時としては結構高額だったんでしょうか？また、キットの説明書には 1987.12 の文字が。バブル期にリリースされたんですねえ。

比較のために 1/43 のダイキャストモデルを置いて写しましたが、やはり 1/16 は大きいですね。キットはフルディテールで、エンジン、サスペンションまで再現されてます。エンジンは車に組み込むのと、単体で飾るのの２通りが選択できます。実はほとんどプラモデルの車のキットを組んだことが無いのでコメントするのもなんですが、見た感じいいキットのようです。あとは作る時間さえあればー。

Some members are selling extra kits from their stock in monthly meeting of IPMS Seattle. I found this kit in the meeting on last Saturday. I have a kit of Fujimi Enthusiast model in 1/24 scale, but I didn't know there were kits in 1/16 scale.

I bought this kit at $20. I didn't know the market price, but it seems I got mine fairly cheap. According to the print on the box, the original price was 3800 yen. I guess it was rather expensive kit when it was released. Also the instruction says "1987.12", so the kit was released when bubble economy in Japan was building up to its peak two years later.

I included a 1/43 die-cast model in the picture to illustrate the size of the kit. It's a full detail kit with complete engine and suspensions.
The engine can be displayed on a platform included in the kit, or installed in the car. Look like a good kit though I have little experience on building regular injection automotive kit. Only if I had time to build it...

Posche 718/8

ちょっと前の話ですが、Grand Prix Models からの新着商品のメールがに、Jade Minature から Porsche 718/8 のキットと完成品が発売されるとありました。718 F1 を作り始めてからこの辺のポルシェに興味が出てきたので早速値段をチェック。キットで５５ユーロ。うーーーむ、同じく Jade が出してる 718 F1 のキットはスターターの再販と信じているのですが（写真を見る限り、エッチングをふくめてパーツ構成が同じ）、スターターのキットに $70 近く出すのはちょっとためらわれます。なので、今回はパス。写真にある 2000 GS も持ってるしねー。っていくらで買ったか記録をみたら eBay で $67 出してました(笑)。

でも、この調子でなかなか手に入りにくいスターターのキットとか出してくれるといいですね。eBay をみてると時々スターターのキットにとんでもない値段がついてたりしますからね。このまえも 718 F2 （私の作ってるのとデカール違いぐらいだと思います）に $130 とか、Pegaso Z102 Le Mans に $150 とかついてました。

While ago I received e-mail from Grand Prix Models about new arrivals. One of them was Porsche 718/8. The price of the kit is 55 Euro. Hmm, I believe 718 F1 kit from Jade is reproduction of Starter kit (as far as I saw the picture of the kit, it looks almost same). I wasn't sure if I want to spend $70 on a starter kit and I already have a kit of 2000 GS as shown in the picture, so I passed it. (Later it turned out I spent $67 for the 2000 GS Kit :P)

Anyway it's nice if more rare Stater kits become available since their price on eBay became beyond reasonable. For example I found a kit of Porsche 718 F2 which must be almost identical to one I'm working on was sold at $130, which is way beyond its worth in my opinion. Or Pegaso Z102 Le Mans at $150.

Maserati Now and Then Part 2

マセラティの今と昔ということで、こちらが昔。マセラティ・ブーメランですね。こちらも Yow Modelli さんのキットです。

スーパーカーブームのころに、この車の形をした消しゴムを持っていました。30年近く経ってレジンキットを手に入れることになるとは、まさに三つ子の魂百までです。１９７２年に発表だったらしいですが、現在見てもかなりインパクトの強い車です。

キットはバードケージ同様気泡のないきれいなキャストです。よく見ると筋彫りが微妙に曲がっていたり面がよれていたりするので、その辺は手入れが必要そうです。バードケージもそうですが、タイヤはゴムではなく樹脂製です。最初キットに入っていたタイヤが楕円になってしまっていたので、メールして新しいセットを送ってもらいました。

So this is the "Then" part - Maserati Boomerang. This is also by Yow Modelli.

When I was a kid I had a miniature made of rubber. Now I have it again as a resin kit (to be built of course...). Old habits die hard. The car was introduced in 1972. After 30 years it still looks impressive.

The cast is clean and no bubble is found, as is the case of Maserati Birdcage kit. Looking closer reveals inconsistent panel lines and uneven surfaces, which need to be corrected before it's ready to be painted. The tires are made of some kind of resin, not rubber. The set of tires included in the kit was all skewed and looked oval. I asked Yow Modelli and got a new set.

いろいろなサイトで紹介されているので、いまさらながらという気がしますが、Yow Modelli さんの Maserati Birdcage 75 のキットです。先月 Yow Modelli さんのウェブサイトを通じて直接入手しました。初めて実車の写真を見たときは感動しました。近年のコンセプトカーの中では一番好きな車です。キットがでたら是非手に入れたいと思っていました。

Yow Modelli さんのキットは初めてですが、綺麗なキャストで気泡はまったく見当たりません。ボディはきれいな一方、コクピット内のパーツの表面処理がちょっと荒いような気がします。と、写真を見ていたら、エンジン上部にあるはずのエアファンネルのパーツがないことに気がつきました。あれぇ？最初から入ってたかよく覚えてないぞ。けど自作も難しくなさそうなので、まあいいか。ちなみにヘッドライトなどのクリアパーツは写真には写ってませんが、キットには入っています。

カトリーヌさんがコクピットを開閉可能にしてらっしゃるところです。どのようになるか楽しみですね。またすでに完成させたアリヤさんによると、ダッシュボードの取り付け位置がわからないのと、ウィンドウのフィッティングが難しいそうです。ほかの皆さんの製作記が見られるのはありがたいことですね。

You may have already seen this in other blogs, but here it goes. This is the kit of Maserati Birdcage 75 by Yow Modelli. I bought this directly from the company through the web site. I was very fascinated when I saw the picture of the car for the first time. I wanted to get the kit as soon as it becomes available.

This is the first time I ever bought Yow Modelli kit. The casting is beautiful and there's no bubble nor pinhole. The surface of the body is very smooth while the parts in the cockpit seems bit rough. BTW while I was looking at the picture, I noticed the air funnel piece is missing. I even don't remember it was in the package. The shape isn't complicated, so I should have no problem making it by myself. The clear parts for lights etc. are included in the kit, but I forgot to take the picture of them.

Tiny Cozy Factory is working on making the door movable. This will be interesting. Also according to Mr. Ariya who has finished one, there are two difficult parts - one is to find out correct location to fit dashboard, and the other is to fit the big window. It's quite helpful to read these modeling diaries.

最後は同じく PMA の Delahaye 135 Figoni Falaschi 1936 です。PMA はルマン参戦車など、レーシングカーをメインの商品にしているようですが、なぜか PGO やこんなものも作っていたりします。

2000 年のぺブルビーチのコンテストで Best Of Show を取った車で (実際にはぺブルビーチのは 1937 製となっていて、キットのとは違うかも)、かなりユニークなデザインで好みが分かれると思います。

とすでに一生かかっても作りきれない在庫にまたキットが２つ追加されました。

The last one is also a kit from PMA, Delahaye 135 Figoni Falaschi 1936. Many of their models are of modern racing cars such as Le Mans, so this and the PGO are rather unusual choices.

This car quite unique design won Best Of Show of Pebble Beach Concourse D'elegance 2000 (the car at Pebble Beach 2002 was of 1937, so actually it can be different car).

So I got two more addition to the large pile of kits which I probably won't be able to finish them all in my life.

お次は Provence Miniatures Automobiles の PGO 180 Cevennes です。PMA は 前述の Starter を買収していた Provence Moulage(PM) が 2004 年に倒産した後、そのメンバーが作った会社と聞いています。このキット、型番が 1 番で新製品予告でも最初に出ていたのに、なかなかリリースされなくて不思議に思ってました。

PGO 自身はフランスの会社で、Peugeot のエンジンを使って Porsche 356 Speedster に似た車を作る会社だったようです。ですが、何でもポルシェに訴えられたためだとか、こちらも 2004 年に倒産してしまったようです。詳しい事情を知ってらっしゃる方がおられたらお知らせください。

キットはレジンベースで気泡もなくきれいにキャストされています。ヘッドライトやフロントウィンドウなどクリアパーツも親切に２つ入っています。たくさんエッチングパーツも入っていて、それほど手を入れなくてもそれなりに見えるものが出来そうです。

The next is PGO 180 Cevennes kit by Provence Miniatures Automobiles. According to what I heard, PMA was started by the members from Provence Moulage which once acquired Starter then went out of business in 2004. This kit was numbered as their first and was advertised from the start, but didn't get released long time for some reason.

PGO itself was a French company and built cars that look like Porsche 356 Speedster, using Peugeot engine. But they've gone bankrupt in 2004 after Porsche allegedly filed lawsuit against them. Please let me know if you know any information about this.

The kit is resin based and the parts are cleanly cast without any pinhole. They included two sets of clear parts (headlights and windshield) and lots of PE parts. It seems to build a decent model
without extra detail up works.
