賊はわなをしかけたのが、壮二君であることを知ったのかもしれません。そして、足にうけた傷のふくしゅうをするために、壮二君だけを誘かいしたのかもしれません。
The theif migh have learnt that Souji was the one who set the trap and abduct him to pay back for the injury he got.
さあ、大さわぎになりました。中村捜査係長は、ただちにこのことを警視庁に報告し、東京全都に非常線をはって、羽柴家の自動車をさがしだす手配をとりました。さいわい自動車の型や番号はわかっているのですから、手がかりはじゅうぶんあるわけです。
Now they got helter skelter. The chief Nakamura imidiately reported the metropolis station post a cordon all over Tokyo to search the Hashiba's car. Fortunately they knew what kind of car and the number, they got enough clue.
壮太郎氏は、ほとんど三十分ごとに、学校と警視庁とへ電話をかけて、その後のようすをたずねさせていましたが、一時間、二時間、三時間、時はようしゃなくたっていくのに、壮二君の消息は、いつまでもわかりませんでした。
Soutarou let people to call the schools and police station to ask about it. One, two, and three hours past, still there was no news about Souji.
ところが、その日のお昼すぎになって、ひとりのうすよごれた背広に鳥打ち帽の青年が、羽柴家の玄関にあらわれて、みょうなことをいいだしました。
Then on the afternoon a young guy in shabby suits and a cap came to Hashiba's entrance and said the weirdest thing.
「あたしは、おたくの運転手さんにたのまれたんですがね。運転手さんが、なんだか途中できゅうに私用ができたとかで、たのまれて自動車を運んできたのですよ。車は門の中へ入れておきましたから、しらべて受けとってほしいんですがね。」
I am sent by your chauffer. He asked me drive your car here because he got an urgent errand. I drove the car in here so check it, please."
秘書が、そのことを奥へ報告する。それっというので、主人の壮太郎氏や支配人の近藤老人が、玄関へかけだして、車をしらべてみますと、たしかに羽柴家の自動車にちがいありません。しかし、中にはだれもいないのです。壮二君はやっぱり誘かいされてしまったのです。
The scretary report the news to them. Now Soujirou and butler Kondou rush to the front door and check the car to find it is really theirs. But there was no one inside. It seems that Souji was really abducted.
「おや、こんなみょうな封筒が落ちていますよ。」
近藤老人が、自動車のクッションの上から、一通の封書を拾いあげました。その表には「羽柴壮太郎殿必親展」と大きく書いてあるばかり、裏を見ても、差出人の名はありません。
"Look, there is and odd envelope."
Kondou pick up an evelope from the seat. It says only "Dear Hashiba Soutarou" on it and there is no sender's name.
「なんだろう。」
と、壮太郎氏が封をひらいて、庭に立ったまま読んでみますと、そこには左のようなおそろしいことばが書きつらねてあったのです。
"What is it."
Soutarou opened it and read it in the garden. It said such a horrible thing like this.
