今夏、Institute of Reading Development, Inc.という教育団体の4歳児・5歳児向け設けられた本が読めるようになるためのクラス「Reading Readiness(リーディング・レディーネス)」をサラが取りました。
週1回1時間15分、計5回のクラスで、アメリカのキンダーガーデンのリーディングのクラスで学ぶことを先取りして、実際に進学したときに他の生徒よりもできるようになるのが目的&目標。
大学のキャンパス内になる実際の教室で授業が行われ、キャンパスを歩いているとサマークラスを取っている学生とすれ違ったりして、サラはすでに「大学生気分」!

ちなみにサラのお気に入りはMadeline、Curious George、Millions of Cats、Caps for Sale、The House of East 88th Street です。
4歳児、5歳児は、数語の言葉は読めますが、本全部を一人で読めるわけではないので、親が毎日読み聞かせをすることが何よりも一番大事だそうです。
