The Pentagon is seeking to cancel the Air Force version of Lockheed Martin Corp.'s (LMT.N: Quote, Profile, Research) F-35, the world's biggest fighter program, a leading defense consultant said Friday.
Gordon England, acting deputy secretary of defense, "is pushing to eliminate one of the three aircraft versions, and the Air Force version is his preferred kill" as a short-term economy measure, said Loren Thompson, citing discussions with senior Pentagon and industry officials.

現在3タイプの開発が進行中のF-35のうち、空軍型CTOLのF-35Aの開発を中止しますよ、というのがこの記事の伝えるところのようです。
まだ決定ではないけれど、ゴードン・イングランド国防副長官がA型の開発ストップさせる気満々である、と。
代わりに空軍は海軍型のC型買ってね、という文も見えるような。
…えっと、そうするとアメリカ空軍はF-16C/Dの後継として、F-35Cを導入することになるのでしょうか。
それともF/A-22Aの調達数を上方修正？
どーすんだ、一体。後者を実行できるだけの予算はないと思うんですが、いかにアメリカといえど…。
