『日本書紀』崇神天皇 11
時丹波氷上人。名氷香戸邊。啓于皇太子活目尊曰。己子有小兒。而自然言之。玉■鎭石。出雲人祭。眞種之甘美鏡。押羽振。甘美御神底寶御寶主。山河之水泳御魂。靜挂甘美御神底寶御寶主也。〈■。此云毛。〉是非似小兒之言。若有託言乎。於是。皇太子奏于天皇。則勅之使祭。
六十二年秋七月乙卯朔丙辰。詔曰。農天下之大本也。民所恃以生也。今河内狹山埴田水少。是以。其國百姓怠於農於農事。其多開池溝。以寛民業。
冬十月。造依網池。
十一月。作苅坂池。反折池。〈一云。天皇居桑間宮造是三池也。〉
六十五年秋七月。任那國遣蘇那曷叱知令朝貢也。任那者。去筑紫國二千餘里。北阻海以在鷄林之西南。
天皇踐祚六十八年冬十二月戊申朔壬子崩。時年百廿歳。明年秋八月甲辰朔甲寅。《十一》葬于山邊道上陵。
≪英訳≫
A person from Hikami in Tamba, named Hikatobe, spoke to Crown Prince Ikume-no-mikoto, saying, “A little child in my place is singing alone.
A stone like a submerged jewel in the water grass.
A genuine, splendid mirror prayed and offered by the people of Izumo.
A magnificent divine mirror wielding strong vitality.
Treasure at the bottom of the water.
Master of the treasure.
The noble mirror purifying the souls of mountains and rivers.
A splendid divine mirror hanging submerged.
Treasure at the bottom of the water.
Master of the treasure.
These words do not seem like those of a child. Perhaps a god possesses and speaks through them,” he said.
Upon hearing this, the Crown Prince reported it to the Emperor.
The Emperor decreed to enshrine the mirrors.
In the autumn of the sixty-second year, on the second day of the seventh month, a decree was issued,
“Agriculture is the foundation of the country. It is the livelihood of the people. Currently, the rice fields in Sayama of Kawachi lack water. Therefore, the farmers in that country are neglecting agriculture. Hence, dig ponds and ditches to broaden the people’s livelihood,” he proclaimed.
In winter, a pond called Yosami was constructed. In the eleventh month, ponds called Karisaka and Sakaori were constructed.
In the sixty-fifth year, on the second day of the seventh month, Mimana sent Sonakashi-chi to offer tribute. Mimana is over two thousand li(里) away from Tsukushi, to the north across the sea, southwest of Keirin (Silla).
The Emperor, who ascended the throne, passed away on the fifth day of the twelfth month of the sixty-eighth year. At that time, he was one hundred and twenty years old.
On the eleventh day of the eighth month of the following year, he was buried at the Yamanohe-no-MichinoE-no-Misasagi.
≪この英文の和訳≫
丹波の氷上(ひかみ)の人で、名は水香戸辺(ひかとべ)という人が、皇太子の活目尊(いくめのみこと)に言いました。「私の所にいる小さな子供が、一人で歌っております。
水草の中に沈んでいる玉のような石。
出雲の方々が祈り祭る真の見事な鏡。
力強く活気に満ちた立派な御神の鏡。
水底に潜む宝物。
宝物の主。
山々と川々の水が清める御魂。
沈んで掛かっている見事な御神の鏡。
水底に潜む宝物。
宝物の主。
この言葉は、子供のものとは思えません。神が宿り、その言葉を語っているかもしれません」と述べました。
そこで皇太子は、その話を天皇に申し上げました。天皇は勅(ちょく)して、その鏡を祭ることとなりました。
六十二年の秋、七月の二日、詔(みことのり)により「農業は国の基本であり、民の生計そのものである。現在、河内の狭山の田圃は水が足りません。それゆえ、その国の農民が農業を怠っているのです。そこで、池や溝を掘り、民の生計を広めるべく努めましょう」と宣言されました。
冬には、依網池(よさみのいけ)が造られました。十一月には、荊坂池(かりさかのいけ)と反折池(さかおりのいけ)が造られました。
六十五年の秋、七月の二日には、任那国(みまなこく)が蘇那易叱智(そなかしち)を遣わして朝貢してきました。任那は筑紫(ちくし)から二千余里離れた北の方、海を隔てて鶏林(けいりん、新羅)の西南に位置しています。
即位してから六十八年目の冬、十二月の五日に天皇は崩御されました。その時、年齢は百二十歳でした。
翌年、八月の十一日には山辺道上陵(やまのへのみちのえのみささぎ)に葬られました。
