『日本書紀』弘計天皇 4
屯倉首、命居竈傍、左右秉燭。夜深酒酣、次第儛訖、屯倉首語小楯曰「僕見此秉燭者、貴人而賤己、先人而後己、恭敬撙節、退讓以明禮。撙者、猶趍也、相從也、止也。可謂君子。」於是、小楯撫絃、命秉燭者曰「起儛。」於是兄弟、相讓久而不起、小楯嘖之曰「何爲太遲、速起儛之。」億計王起儛既了、天皇次起、自整衣帶、爲室壽曰、
築立稚室葛根、築立柱者、此家長御心之鎭也。取舉棟梁者、此家長御心之林也。取置椽橑者、此家長御心之齊也。取置蘆萑者、此家長御心之平也。蘆萑、此云哀都利。萑音之潤反。取結繩葛者、此家長御壽之堅也。取葺草葉者、此家長御富之餘也。出雲者新墾、新墾之十握稻、於淺甕釀酒、美飲喫哉。美飲喫哉、此云于魔羅儞烏野羅甫屢柯倭。吾子等。子者、男子之通稱也。脚日木此傍山、牡鹿之角牡鹿、此云左鳥子加。舉而吾儛者、旨酒餌香市不以直買、手掌憀亮手掌憀亮、此云陀那則舉謀耶羅々儞。拍上賜、吾常世等。
壽畢、乃赴節歌曰、
伊儺武斯蘆 呵簸泝比野儺擬 寐逗喩凱麼 儺弭企於巳陀智 曾能泥播宇世儒
小楯、謂之曰「可怜、願復聞之。」
≪英訳≫
Miyake no Obito (屯倉首), seated beside the hearth, had people light torches on both sides. As the night deepened and the revelry progressed, and after the dances had ended, Miyake no Obito spoke to Odate (小楯):
"When I observe those holding the torches, they honor others while humbling themselves, putting others before themselves, and being polite and respectful. They yield and defer, making their manners clear. Such people can truly be called noble."
Odate, while plucking his koto, ordered the two torchbearers, "Get up and dance." The brothers hesitated, each deferring to the other and not standing up. Odate rebuked them, saying, "Why are you taking so long? Get up and dance quickly."
Oke no Miko (億計王) finally stood and danced, finishing his performance. Then, the Emperor (弘計, 顕宗天皇) rose, adjusted his garments, and recited a song praising the house:
"The young vines that build this new room,
The pillars that stand strong—these calm the heart of the master of this house.
The beams raised high—these are the pride of the master of this house.
The rafters placed securely—these bring order to the heart of the master of this house.
The reeds laid carefully—these bring peace to the heart of the master of this house.
The ropes and vines tied firmly—these ensure the longevity of the master of this house.
The thatch laid upon the roof—this is the wealth that overflows from the master of this house.
In the land of Izumo, the newly cultivated fields yield ten handfuls of rice.
The sake brewed in shallow jars—how sweet it is to drink! My companions, let us drink together!
When I, standing by the foot of this mountain, lift up the antlers of a noble deer and dance,
This delicious sake, this drink, cannot be bought for any price at the famous Eka Market.
The clapping of hands echoes with joy,
Let us celebrate together, my eternal friends."
After finishing the song of praise, the Emperor then performed a song to the rhythm of the koto:
"Inamushi no Asu,
The kawayanagi willow sways along the riverside,
As the water flows, it bends and rises,
But its roots never disappear."
Odate then said, "How delightful! I wish to hear it again."
≪この英文の和訳≫
屯倉首（みやけのおびと）は、竈(かまど)のそばに座り、両側に人々を配置して松明を灯させました。夜が更け、宴も進んで舞が終わると、屯倉首は小楯（おだて）に語りました。
「この松明を持っている者たちを見ていると、他人を敬って自分を低くし、他の人を優先し、自分を後回しにしている。そして、礼儀正しく慎み深い態度を示している。こうした人々は、本当に君子と言えるでしょう」。
小楯は琴を弾きながら、松明を持っている二人に「立って舞いなさい」と命じました。しかし、兄弟たちはお互いに譲り合い、なかなか立ち上がりませんでした。小楯は彼らを叱り、「なぜそんなに時間がかかっているのか？早く立ち上がって舞いなさい」と言いました。
億計王（おけのみこ）がついに立ち上がり、舞を終えました。その後、天皇（弘計、顕宗天皇）は立ち上がり、衣服を整え、家を讃える歌を詠みました。
「この新しい部屋を建てるために、若い葛を張りめぐらせる。
立てられた柱は、この家の主の心を落ち着かせるものだ。
高く掲げられた棟や梁は、この家の主の誇りである。
しっかりと配置された垂木は、この家の主の心を整えるものである。
丁寧に置かれた葦や蘆は、この家の主の心を平らかにするものである。
しっかりと結ばれた縄や葛は、この家の主の長寿を確かなものにする。
屋根に葺かれた茅は、この家の主の富の豊かさを示すものである。
＊出雲の新しく開墾された田畑から得られた十握の稲穂を、 浅い甕(かめ)に仕込んだ酒、なんと美味しいことか！ 我が友たちよ、一緒に飲もう。 この山の麓で、私が牡鹿の角を掲げて舞うと、 この美味しい酒は、 あの有名な餌香の市場でも、どんな値段をつけても買うことができないものだ。 手拍子が響き渡る、 この酒をいただいた。 我が永遠の友たちよ」
家を讃える歌が終わり、天皇は琴の音に合わせて歌いました。
「川沿いに立っている川楊（かわやなぎ）は、 川の水の流れにつれて、なびいたり立ち上がったりしているが、 その根は決して失われることがない」。
小楯は言いました「これは面白い。どうかもう一度聞かせてほしい」。
＊ここにも「出雲」が出てくるが、島根の出雲ではないだろう。今でもGoogle Mapなどでは奈良に「出雲」という地域がある
