内容紹介
「うきま」
東京の北の端、荒川と新河岸川に挟まれた街、浮間。
老朽化が進み、一部で立て替えも始まっている団地の一角に、
ここが良いねと住むことを決めたのは、取り残されたような古さが、
僕ら二人にぴったりな気がしたからでした。
僕らが結婚したのは四十歳をすぎてからでした。
僕は初めて、彼女は二度目。
それまで長く独りで生きて来た僕にはあらゆることが新鮮で、
でも懐かしくて、暮らしとはこういうものかと実感する日々です。
晴れた日には二人で、カメラだけ持って、うきまを歩きます。
団地のまわりには住人たちが思い思いに植えた花々があり、
花の名前を彼女が教えてくれます。
そんな団地も建て替えが進んで、風景は少しずつ変化していき、
ふたりが好きだった手作りのパン屋さんも店を閉めました。
あるとき喧嘩をして、仲直りをしたあと彼女が僕に言いました
「あなたはまだ、本当に大事なものを失ったことがないのよ」
窓の外には川を渡る、貨物船のエンジンの音が聞こえていました。
うきまの暮らしにぴったりの古い写真機で
僕が大事にしているものをひとつひとつ拾い集めてみようと思ったのです。
“UKIMA”
In the North end of Tokyo, there is a town called Ukima
that is sandwiched between the Arakawa River and the
Shingashi River.
My wife and I happily decided to live in one of
the apartment complexes that were very old
and begun to be rebuilt. We found that its old-fashioned
perfectly suited us.
We were both over forty years old when we got married.
This is my first marriage and the second time for her.
Everything in my marriage life is fresh for me because
I had been living by myself for a long time. But I also felt
it is nostalgic.
I don’t know why. I am so happy every day any way.
I feel this is my life.
On sunny days, we take a walk in Ukima, only carrying my old camera.
There are a variety of flowers around the apartment complexes.
They were planted by the residents with consideration.
My wife tells me what sort of flowers they are.
The apartment complexes have been rebuilt and the scenery
around there has been slowly changing.
Sadly, our favorite bakery shop selling home made breads
has been also closed.
On one occasion, we had a terrible argument about a little thing.
After figuring out the conflict, she said to me,
“You have never lost a really important thing for you.”
We were watching a cargo ship going across the river from
the window as listening to its engine noise.
This is how I have made up my mind to collect a bit of
pieces of something important for me by using my old
and nostalgic camera that I believe that suits my Ukima life.
