Information regarding a Dell tablet running Windows 8 has beenleaked, giving us an idea of what to expect when the new OS arrivesat the end of the year. It was back in March that Dell s chief commercial officer claimed the company saw future success in tablets running Windows 8 , which just sounded like the tech equivalent of there s gold inthem thar hills at the time, but a new leak has given us our first look at a possible Dell device, and it ssuitably intriguing. The subject of the leak is the Latitude 10, which appears on aconfidential Dell spec sheet, and looks to be aimed at businessusers. The small picture doesn t give much away about the design, but then it s a tablet, and they all look almost identical to eachother anyway. It has a 10.1-inch screen with a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, andits capacitive surface can be caressed using a finger or anincluded stylus. Freezer Door Hinges

Inside is a dual-core Intel Atom processor, 2GB of RAM and an Intelgraphics card. Aside from it being based on x86 architecture, theother notable spec here is the processor, as it s listed asIntel s Clover Trail. Revealed to be related to the Medfield smartphone SoC, an executive for Intel called the Clover Trail Atom chips a vehicle for Windows 8 tablets earlier this year. They re based on Intel s 32nm fabricationprocess, and have been linked with other Windows 8 tablets from manufacturersincluding Acer and Lenovo . Going back to the Latitude 10, there will be a range of internalstorage options available, but the only one listed is a 128GB SSD,which presumably will be the top-of-the-range offering. Other features include a pair of cameras, 8-megapixel on the rearand 2-megapixel on the front, a fingerprint scanner, Wi-Fi,Bluetooth and mobile broadband options. Interestingly, twodifferent types of battery will be available, and they ll beuser-replaceable too. Price and availability There are two details missing from the Latitude 10 s spec sheet:Price and availability. Windows 8, along with its accompanying newhardware, is expected to show up in October or November , and Intel s Clover Trail processors have also been linked with alate-2012 release. A version of Dell's Data Protection service called Essentialsis listed under the Standard Security heading, and it has a Q1 2013release date next to it, which could be inferred to mean the tabletwill be released either then, or at the close of 2012. Price is anyone s guess at the moment, but it needs to becompetitive to persuade people to take the plunge on what appearsto be a laptop squeezed into a tablet. The Clover Trail chip isalso unproven, as is its ability to provide decent performance on2GB of RAM. The Latitude 10 seen here isn t official yet, and the specs maychange between now and its release; but as it stands, we wonder howmany people will choose it over one of the many ultrabookscurrently flooding the market.

A report published Saturday suggests BlackBerry maker Research InMotion is about to lay off at least 2,000 of its employeesworldwide as it seeks to turn its business around. Research In Motion (RIM) executives know full well that if theywant to get their once successful company back on track they needto make some unenviable decisions. News from Canada's Globe and Mail published on Saturday indicates the Waterloo, Ontario-based firm is to take the difficult step oflaying off at least 2,000 of its 16,500 workforce in a globalrestructuring effort set to start in the next few weeks. The Globeand Mail cites as its source several people close to the company, adding that the lay-offs could "sweep across departments, ranging from senior positions in RIM s legal division to humanresources, finance, sales and marketing." The depressing newscomes in the same week that the company's global sales chief,Patrick Spence, resigned after 14 years at the firm. Wireless Alarms GSM Car Alarm

The reported changes are set to come a few months after RIM founderMike Lazaridis, together with his right-hand man Jim Balsillie, stepped down from running the firm in the midst of a difficult period which sawits once hugely popular BlackBerry devices losing market share tothe iPhone and Android-powered devices. And that wasn't thehalf of it. Problems RIM's attempt to make an impact in the tablet market lastyear with the launch of its PlayBook device came to nothing, while in October users of BlackBerrydevices had to put up with a four-day service blackout thatculminated in Lazaridis making a personal video apology . On top of those PR disasters, RIM announced at the end of lastyear that it had taken the decision to delay the launch of its much-anticipated BlackBerry 10 operating system
