EY hires magic circle law firm to challenge CMA reforms

英国EYが、法律事務所と契約して、英国競争・市場庁（CMA）が提案した英監査業界の改革案に抵抗しようとしているという記事。

The Big Four firm has hired Slaughter and May to advise on the legal ramifications of the CMA’s sweeping recommendations for reforms to the audit sector

CMAの報告書では、競争促進のため、監査部門とコンサル部門の分離やビッグ4事務所以外との共同監査を提案していました。

The competition watchdog published its report on the sector in April, recommending that the Big Four should split their audit and consulting operations. It also proposed joint audits, including a non-Big Four auditor, to boost competition.

EYは、Slaughter and Mayという法律事務所と契約したことを認めているそうです。

CMAの報告書が公表されたとき、EYは懸念を表明していました。永続的な変化をもたらし、英国を投資し、就業するのに最適な場所とする機会を逃すようなものだと批判的なコメントを述べていたそうです。

When the report was published, EY expressed its concern over the proposals.

“They represent a missed opportunity to create lasting change and make the UK the best and safest place to invest and work,” it said at the time.

ビッグ4のほかの事務所も、報告書に全面的に賛成しているわけではありませんが、テレグラフ紙の報道によれば、EYは改革に抵抗する用意がある唯一の事務所だそうです。

Although other firms, including KPMG, disagreed with some of the proposed changes, the Telegraph reports that EY is the only Big Four firm preparing to fight the reforms.

自分たちに影響することですから、反対意見を述べたり、法的な対抗策が取れないか検討すること自体が悪いことだとはいえませんが、同紙の報道によると、米国のEYの上級幹部が、英国EYの理事会に対して、CMAの改革案に対して抵抗するよう指示したのだそうです。グローバル組織の介入という点で、これは無視できないことです。

The paper also says that senior EY executives based in the US are understood to have instructed the UK board to resist the CMA’s proposals.
