Did you see the proverb in English, The cunning mason works with any stone doesn't make sense of both Japanese translation and the proverb in Japanese. The cunning mason implies audacious people who can achieve their work by deceit or evasion, according to the Oxford dictionary. From the words, I can think of Yakunin in Japan. While seasoned or experienced mason and Kobo Daisi have no negative implication at all.
