Security concerns have prompted a growing number of Japan's junior high schools to stop embroidering names or sewing tags on school uniforms to protect the students’ privacy.
Many schools across Japan have begun to consider abolishing the custom,
due to a string of incidents of students being targeted or harassed.

An unknown man photographed a girl's face and name on her way to school, and posted the pictures online.
However, students displaying their names on their uniforms has many advantages.
Such as making it easier for teachers and other students to remember their names.
So many schools are trying to figure out the best path forward.
According to the education ministry, policy on name tags is left to each school.
Some schools use detachable name tags, some schools embroider names on a breast pocket flap,
some schools set up a specific area that students return their name tags before leaving school.
It's hard to say what the best path is.
