Just reported on Fuji Television news that the exchange rate soared to 76 Japanese Yen to 1 US Dollar.
A 3 to 4 yen jump in the value against the dollar driven by investor speculation
that Japan will soon need to pull back its resources overseas to rebuild.

Wow, another large earthquake
March 15th, 2011 about 22:31 (Tuesday)
A reported 6.0
but this one centered in the Tokai area
which is just an hours bullet train south of Tokyo
(Near Mount Fuji).
Is rolled for a good two minutes, starting slow at first
and gradually but slightly increased in intensity.

Finally back in Japan, hundreds of aftershocks continue since the devastating earthquake on Friday March 11th, 2011
And some of them have apparently been very strong.
Today the magnitude for last Friday's big one was updated to 9.0.
Very surreal to see all the devastation on television and honestly, I still do not believe it.
Besides the continuing rescue of the survivors, current key concern is the possible meltdown at the Fukushima Nuclear Power plant.
I returned to Tokyo today and while it felt like business as usual
quite a noticeable decrease in people out on the streets.

アメリカの友人から連絡があり、Facebookでは皆さんのご心配のメッセージを多数
頂いているそうで。
私は先週ずっと中国出張で、アメリカの父親から電話で地震のことを知りました。
日本とはどの番号にも繋がらず、成田へ戻る飛行機もキャンセルで昨晩広島空港で
帰国出来ました。現在新幹線で東京に戻っています。
正直、まだニュースをちゃんと見る機会は無く、状況を把握出来てませんが仙台の
親戚とはまだ連絡がとれてません。
皆さんもくれぐれもお体に気を付けてください。

safe and well.

I will continue to call my relatives in the affected area.
I understand from my friend back in US that my Facebook page is full of
messages concerned about my safety.
Actually, I have been in China all last week on business where Facebook is
restricted.
I did not know of this earthquake until my father in the US called me.
I was not able to connect by phone with anybody in Japan and my return
flight was also cancelled.
So after talking all night with both the airlines and travel agency, I have
just returned to Japan arriving at Hiroshima airport.
Now I am onroute to Tokyo via the bullet train.
Having little chance to watch the news here, I am still learning of the
devastation caused by this tremendouse act of nature.
I have still not been able to contact relatives in Sendai, the most
populated city in Northern Japan and near the epicenter.
