本 「プリンセス・マサコ」 ベンヒルズ

時は2006年、英語版のオリジナル出版時、ベンヒルズが豪州在のジャーナリストということもあり、こちらの新聞に書評もでましたし、ABCのリチャードファイドラーのインタビュー番組にもでていました。

そして、時は流れ2021年、Covidで帰国できない今、どの本を買って日本から転送してもらおうかな～と、アマゾンをみていると、おすすめ本にこの翻訳本がでてくるではありませんか。

ブックオフから「非常に良い」状態の古本を220円で 😅 購入しました！

英語オーストラリア版の第二版がもとになっていて、初版の訂正分が翻訳に反映されているそうです。 初版と記述の異なる部分があるということです。

表紙は英語版のほうがずっとよいですね。

日本語版でそのまま利用するには問題あったのかもしれませんね。

日本での出版も講談社がだめになって、左翼系の本の多い会社からでています。

女性自身 2007年３月６日号より

『外務省から出された（この本に対する）抗議文書にそえられた宮内庁の渡辺侍従長の書簡には肝心の雅子様には一言も言及せず抗議もしていない、というのも宮内庁の雅子様に対する対応が表れている』とありました。

日本の女性誌も一方的に本を批判するだけでもないのだなと

ちょっと見直した部分でした。

私としては秋篠宮殿下のことをプレイボーイと２回もかいてあるのが

気になったりしました。。。本当はそうではないと思っているので。。

それ以外は、Steve Jobsの伝記のように

よく調べて書いてあると思いました。

Steve Jobsの伝記との違いは、実名の人も多いですが

匿名の人も多かったので、ほんとかな～と思う人も多いと思いました。

皇室のことは匿名を保証してもらえないと本音で言えないですね。

噂＝＞検証という形が多いのは

そこは調査ジャーナリストです。

日本人が読んで？？？と思うところは、あると思います。

いくら調査しても日本の文化は３年くらい住んだだけでは

わからないところもあるので。。。

日本最古の首都 大阪と書いてあります（P236）

飛鳥/明日香の聞き間違いと思うのですが

訳者さんに気付いてほしいところですね。

古事記や日本書紀のことまで書いているのは

天皇家について読んで勉強したのだなとは思います。

雅子様たちは気軽に外出できないお立場でいらっしゃいますが

アマゾンから買い物できるのでしょうか。

検閲はありそうですが、できますよね。

雅子様には同情しました。

何十年か後、上皇后になられたら

もう少し自由を得られるのではないでしょうか。

自伝を出していただきたいとも。。。

Ben Hills is an investigative journalist who became fascinated with Japan's princess. He's married to a Japanese woman, himself and has lived and worked in Japan. His biography of the princess is called 'Princess Masako, Prisoner of the Chrysanthemum Throne'.

While becoming a princess might be a fantasy for many young girls, it seems that's not the case in Japan, where the life of a princess is nothing to aspire towards. Japan's Princess Masako is the wife of Crown Prince Naruhito and before her marriage, she was a highly accomplished career diplomat, and she was used to speaking her mind. Now she's a virtual prisoner of the palace, and a big disappointment, because she produced a daughter and not a son.

Ben Hills is an investigative journalist who became fascinated with Japan's princess. He's married to a Japanese woman, himself and has lived and worked in Japan. His biography of the princess is called Princess Masako, Prisoner of the Chrysanthemum Throne.

Ben's own wife had fled Japan's 'anti-female' culture, before she returned when Ben's work took him there. "She found it rather an oppressive, anti-female society," he says. "She wasn't at all pleased when my assignment was changed from Cairo to Tokyo... Most of the women who join corporations, they make the tea, they'll smile... With a bit of luck they'll meet a nice guy. The day they decide to get married will be the day they're expected to resign, and that's the end of their career."

Princess Masako bucked this tradition by having a very successful career before she met the prince. "It was widely expected that she would become the first woman to ever head a government department in Japan," Ben explains. "She was the son her father never had... He desperately wanted her to achieve some of the things a son would have done... In a lot of ways she was brought up as a boy instead of a girl."

But then she met Crown Prince Naruhito. "At the reception, their eyes met across a crowded room, literally he was smitten... He fell in love at first sight... She agreed to marry him out of duty (probably). He said if couldn't marry her, he wouldn't marry anybody."

オーストラリアのジャーナリストというだけあって

ボブホーク、ジェフケネット、シドニーの日本人精神科医の方とうが

話にでてくるのも興味深いです。

面白い本は読み終えるのが残念になってきます。

この本もそうでした。 

内容に賛否両論あり、公平さに欠き無礼である、皇室に尊敬の念が全くないという意見も多数、とはいえジャーナリストとして調査レポートされたベンヒルズ氏には感謝です。

＊日本では彼がどれくらい信頼できるジャーナリストなのかわかりにくいと思います。。オーストラリアでジャーナリズムの賞Walkley Award をもらっています。 受賞時に賞を渡していたのがABCのマイケルローランド。オーストラリアのピューリッツア賞というのは本当です。  ちゃんとした賞ですよ。

良くも悪くもジャーナリストが英国王室を扱う感覚で調査をはじめてしまった結果？？？ 一部日本人読者との温度差は埋められない点もありそう。  Amazonでは冷静に読んでいらっしゃるなというレビューも多かったです。
