椰子の葉刈り

エスプラネードを散歩していると、市の職員が街路樹の椰子の木にするすると登り始めました。樹冠に達すると鉈で古くなった葉を切り落とします。椰子の葉は長さが5ｍ以上、重さも30ｋｇに達し、通行人に落下すると死傷事故につながります。落葉しやすい冬を前に葉刈りが必要です。道路を片側通行止めにして保安要員も配置した大仕事。椰子の実も危険なので結実しないように春には花を切り落としますが、そちらは高所作業用のバケット車と高枝鋏の簡単な仕事です。

Cutting down palm leaves

When I was walking along the Esplanade a municipal worker started to scoot up the street pine tree. When he reaches the canopy he cuts down the old leaves with an ax. As the pine leaf is more than 5m long and it weighs 30kg, some accidents can happen if it falls over the passer-by. So we need to cut down the old leaves before winter, falling leaves season comes. It is a big work that makes one-way traffic and arranges the security guards. Coconuts are also dangerous so they cut down the flowers in spring to prevent from fruition. But it’s easier work with some bucket cars and high-branch cutters.
