和名はフクロオオカミ。地球上に存在した最大の肉食有袋類。18世紀タスマニア州で羊牧場が増えるにつれて食害防止のために1888年から1909年までの20年間、1頭1ポンドの報奨金をかけられて駆逐が奨励され激減。1936年ホバート動物園で最後の1匹が死亡し絶滅。タスマニアではアボリジニも駆逐の対象とされ絶滅。豪州の暗黒史の1つです。明日は軍国記念日のアンザック・デー。

Tasmanian Tiger

Its Japanese name is Pouch Wolf. It was the biggest kind of carnivorous marsupial mammal on the earth. In the 18th century in Tasmania while sheep farming was getting more popular the government encouraged to kill Tasmanian Tigers to prevent from their feeding damage. They had put bounty of 1 pound on exterminating each head of it for 20 years from 1888 to 1909 and the number of them has been reduced drastically. In 1936 the last one died at Hobert Zoo and they became an extinct species. In Tasmania Aborigines were also exterminated after becoming the target. This is one of Australian dark histories. Tomorrow is the army anniversary, Anzac Day.
