『天国と地獄の結婚』より
対立がなければ進歩はない。惹かれることと抵抗すること、
理性と力、愛と憎しみ、これらは人間の存在において必然である。
敬虔な者たちが〈善〉・〈悪〉と呼ぶものもこれらの対立から
生まれる。〈善〉は理性に従う受動的なもの、〈悪〉は力から
生まれる主体的なものである。
〈善〉は天国である。〈悪〉は地獄である。
－－悪魔の声－－
聖書や神の掟なるものが、以下のような誤った理解をもたらしてきた。
1.
人間の存在には二つの相がある。〈肉体〉と〈魂〉である。
2.
〈悪〉と呼ばれる〈力〉は〈肉体〉のみから生まれる。〈善〉と
呼ばれる〈理性〉は〈魂〉のみから生まれる。
3.
〈神〉は、〈力〉のおもむくがままに生きる人間を地獄に落とし、
永遠に終わらない拷問にかけて苦しめる。
むしろ正しいのは、これらと正反対の以下のことがらである。
1.
人間の〈肉体）は〈魂〉から切り離すことができない。〈肉体〉と
呼ばれるものは〈魂〉のうち五感をもつ部分、いわば外部の刺激の
入口のことである。〈肉体〉がなければもはや〈魂〉はおよそ何も
感じることができない。
2.
〈力〉こそ命であり、この力は〈肉体〉がもたらす。〈理性〉とは
〈力〉の境界線、輪郭のようなものである。
3. 〈力〉は〈永遠のよろこび〉である。
欲望を抑える者は、欲望が弱いからそうできるのである。こうして
欲望を抑える理性が欲望から支配権を奪い、欲望は嫌々ながらも
理性に従うことになる。
抑えられた欲望はしだいに受け身になっていき、いずれ影のみの存在と
なっていく。

Without contraries is no progression. Attraction and repulsion,
reason and energy, love and hate, are necessary to human
existence.
From these contraries spring what the religious call Good and Evil.
Good is the passive that obeys reason; Evil is the active springing
from Energy.
Good is heaven. Evil is hell.
THE VOICE OF THE DEVIL
All Bibles or sacred codes have been the cause of the following
errors:―
1.
That man has two real existing principles, viz., a Body and a Soul.
2.
That Energy, called Evil, is alone from the Body; and that Reason,
called Good, is alone from the Soul.
3.
That God will torment man in Eternity for following his Energies.
But the following contraries to these are true:―
1.
Man has no Body distinct from his Soul. For that called Body is a
portion of Soul discerned by the five senses, the chief inlets of
Soul in this age.
2.
Energy is the only life, and is from the Body; and Reason is
the bound or outward circumference of Energy.
3. Energy is Eternal Delight.
Those who restrain desire, do so because theirs is weak enough
to be restrained; and the restrainer or reason usurps its place
and governs the unwilling.
And being restrained, it by degrees becomes passive, till it is only
the shadow of desire.
