『日本書紀』雄略天皇 28
十一年夏五月辛亥朔、近江國栗太郡言「白鸕鷀、居于谷上濱。」因詔、置川瀬舍人。秋七月、有從百濟國逃化來者、自稱名曰貴信、又稱貴信吳國人也。磐余吳琴彈壃手屋形麻呂等、是其後也。冬十月、鳥官之禽、爲菟田人狗所囓死。天皇瞋、黥面而爲鳥養部。於是、信濃國直丁與武藏國直丁、侍宿、相謂曰「嗟乎、我國積鳥之高、同於小墓。旦暮而食、尚有其餘。今天皇、由一鳥之故而黥人面、太無道理、惡行之主也。」天皇聞而使聚積之、直丁等不能忽備、仍詔爲鳥養部。

In the eleventh year, during the summer in May, on the day of ShinGai, there was a report from Kurita District in Ōmi Province, stating, "A white cormorant is residing on the shore of Tanoue." In response, the emperor issued an edict and established an attendant at Kawase.
In autumn, July, a person fled from Baekje(百済) and arrived. He claimed his name was Kuisin and also said he was from the land of Wu(呉). Iware no Sakate no Yakata Maro and others were his descendants.
In winter, October, the bird official's bird was killed by a dog belonging to a person from Uda. The emperor was angry and tattooed the person's face, making them a member of the Bird Keeper department. At that time, two servants, one from Shinano Province and the other from Musashi Province, were on duty. They said, "Oh, in our countries, we have so many birds stacked up like small mounds, and even if we eat them morning and evening, there are still plenty left. Now, the emperor, because of just one bird, has tattooed a person's face. This is too harsh. He is a terrible ruler."
The emperor heard this and commanded them to gather and pile up the birds. However, the servants were unable to do so quickly, and thus, they were punished and made members of the Bird Keeper department.

十一年の夏の五月の辛亥（しんがい）の日に、近江国（おうみのくに）の栗太郡（くりたごおり）から「白い鵜（う）が田上（たのうえ）の浜に住んでいます」という報告がありました。それに対し、天皇は詔（みことのり）を下して川瀬（かわせ）の舎人（とねり）を置かれました。
秋の七月には、百済（くだら）から逃げてきた者がいました。彼は自分の名前を貴信（くいしん）と名乗り、呉（くれ）の国の出身だとも言いました。磐余（いわれ）の呉（くれ）の琴弾（ことひ）きの坂手屋形麻呂（さかてのやかたまろ）たちは彼の子孫でした。
冬の十月に、鳥官（とりつかさ）の鳥が宇陀（うだ）の人の犬に噛まれて死んでしまいました。天皇は怒り、その人の顔に入墨をして、鳥養部（とりかいべ）にしました。ちょうどその時、信濃国の仕丁（つかえのよぼろ）と武蔵国の仕丁が宿直していました。彼らは、「ああ、自分たちの国では鳥が小さな塚のように積まれていて、朝夕に食べてもまだ余っている。今、天皇はたった一羽の鳥のために人の顔に入墨をされた。これはあまりにも酷い。悪い主(天皇)だ」と言いました。
天皇はこれを聞いて、「鳥を集めて積んでみよ」と命じました。しかし、仕丁たちは急に鳥を集め積むことができず、罰せられて鳥養部にされました。
