用明天皇

橘豐日天皇、天國排開廣庭天皇第四子也、母曰堅鹽媛。天皇信佛法尊神道。十四年秋八月、渟中倉太珠敷天皇崩。
九月甲寅朔戊午、天皇卽天皇位。宮於磐余、名曰池邊雙槻宮。以蘇我馬子宿禰爲大臣、物部弓削守屋連爲大連、並如故。壬申、詔曰、云々。以酢香手姬皇女、拜伊勢神宮奉日神祀。是皇女、自此天皇時逮乎炊屋姬天皇之世、奉日神祀。自退葛城而薨。見炊屋姬天皇紀。或本云、卅七年間奉日神祀、自退而薨。
≪英訳≫
Emperor Tachibana-no-Toyohi (橘豊日天皇 Tachibana-no-Toyohi no Sumeramikoto) was the fourth son of Emperor Kinmei (欽明天皇). His mother was Katashihime (堅塩媛), the daughter of Soga no Iname (蘇我稲目). This emperor revered the Buddhist teachings and respected the Shinto traditions.
In the 14th year of his reign, during the autumn of the eighth month, Emperor Bidatsu (敏達天皇) passed away.
On the fifth day of the ninth month, Emperor Yōmei (用明天皇) ascended to the throne. He constructed a palace in the region of Iware (磐余), naming it the Ikebe no Namitsuki Palace (池辺双槻宮). Soga no Umako (蘇我馬子) retained his position as Ōomi (大臣 Great Minister), and Mononobe no Yuge no Moriya (物部弓削守屋) continued to serve as Ōmuraji (大連 Great Chieftain).
On the nineteenth day of the same month, an imperial edict (詔) was issued, which included the following decree: Princess Sukatehime (須加手姫皇女) was sent to the Ise Grand Shrine (伊勢神宮) to serve as the High Priestess (斎宮 Saigū) of Amaterasu Ōmikami (天照大神).
According to the Chronicles of Empress Suiko (推古天皇紀), this princess served at the Grand Shrine of Amaterasu from the reign of this emperor until the era of Empress Suiko (推古天皇). In later years, she retired to her maternal hometown in Katsuragi (葛城), where she passed away. Another source states that she served the Grand Shrine for 37 years before voluntarily stepping down and then passing away.

橘豊日天皇(たちばなのとよひのすめらみこと 用明天皇)は、欽明天皇の第四子であられる。御母は堅塩媛(かたしひめ)であり、蘇我稲目(そがのいなめ)の娘である。天皇は仏法を信仰され、また神道を深く尊ばれた。
十四年の秋八月に、敏達天皇(びだつてんのう)が崩御された。
九月五日、用明天皇(ようめいてんのう)が即位され、磐余(いわれ)の地に宮を造営された。この宮は池辺双槻宮(いけべのなみつきのみや)と名付けられた。蘇我馬子(そがのうまこ)は引き続き大臣(おおおみ)に任じられ、物部弓削守屋(もののべのゆげのもりや)も大連(おおむらじ)とすることはもとのままであった。
同月十九日、詔(みことのり)が発せられ、須加手姫皇女(すかてひめのみこ)を伊勢神宮に遣わし、斎宮(いつきのみや)として天照大神(あまてらすおおみかみ)にお仕えさせられた。
この皇女は、この天皇の御代から推古天皇の御代に至るまで皇大神宮(こうたいじんぐう)に奉仕された。その後、御母の実家である葛城(かつらぎ)に退かれ、そこで薨去(こうきょ)されたと、『推古天皇紀』に記されている。また、別の記録には、この皇女は三十七年間にわたり大神に奉仕された後、自らその務めを辞し、薨去されたとある。
