Song of the Week ～ Tears in Heaven

　エリック・クラプトンの名曲、"Tears in Heaven"　（「天国の涙」）は、1991年の映画『ラッシュ』挿入歌として使われ、映画はパッとしなかったようですが、この曲は大ヒット。1991年３月に、ニューヨークのアパート53階の窓から転落死した４歳の息子コナー君を想ってクラプトンが書いた曲として有名です。母親が目を離したすきに、家政婦が開けっぱなしにしてしまっていた窓から落ちてしまったという悲劇。幼いコナー君は、53階という高さから地上へ落ちながら、何を思い、何を見たのか……。

　クラプトンはこの事故のあとで、家庭内でのちょっとした注意が不幸な事故を防げると訴えています。
　歌詞は、先だった息子に対する父親の心情を歌ったものですが、身近な人を亡くした経験があれば、どんな関係にでも当てはまる、悲しいけれど優しい歌です。
