Happy New Year!
14 hours behind Japan, I had the new year today!!
Well, I will tell you what happened around the midnight ..
Yoshi and I went to downtown the last new year's eve but we stayed at home last night, laid-back, watching TV. We didn't do anything special. No special dinner, no party with friends. Just two of us spending the rest of last year. I felt so happy, just two of us. So was Yoshi, ... hopefully.
It was half past 11, we were ready for the new year to welcome, the lights went off all of a sudden!!! What the ... ??!!
We soon lit candles that we bought right after the blackout occurred 2 summers ago.
Does any of you remember there was a broad-scale blackout in New York and Toronto? Which left tens of thousands of people out of electricity for a day or two. It ruined our frozen meat and ice cream in the freezer ... It happened only 3 weeks after I arrived Toronto, by the way.. There was no candles in my house yet... We just went to bed at the night because there was nothing else to do. We learnt the lesson from it. We bought 2 dozen candles right away.
Anyway,
The blackout last night seemed only around our area. I saw houses and condos with the lights on one block away.
You know what? In Canada, it takes much longer to have the lights back on than in Japan when there is a blackout. It is simply because people here is slower by nature. They are not as earnest as Japanese. ... No, that's not right. I don't know, their common sense about work is different from the beginning.
Anyway, it took the lights about 1 & 1/2 hours to back on. And, you know, it was the end of the year. No companies seemed open, not even utility companies! Who would fix the lights then??
We had the new year in the dark.
We heard some neighbors celebrated the new year began. Some young people yelled in the street so I yelled back at them! .. Uh-oh, it made yoshi freaked out. Yoshi started to be mad at me. I apologized several times but he didn't stop nagging. Finally I got mad because he called me a retard.
OH, NO....
We started the new year with a big fight ...
And then the night is gone, the mad fight is gone too.
We are cool now!
Looks like we will be this kind of couple this year as well. No such romantic situations we are in. Heh, heh. We are like a brother and sister. That's the way we are!
