Jack got a shot

May, it is the month for annual vaccination against rabies. (狂犬病)

Jack, my cute doggie got a notice last week so I took him to his personal vet. There is a scheduled day for mass vaccination but I never have Jack perticipate in. I go to the vet to buy medicine for Jack to prevent filarial desease anyway so I think it is efficient to do it together.

I always find it funny when Jack climbs on me as soon as I put him on an examination table. He is scared of an animal hospital because he knows it is the place where something painful happens. What a pathetic challenge to escape! His left hind leg is always the only stuff left on the table.

"Oh, it is the right posture. Be still, be still ..." said the vet smiling, this year. He took some blood sample from the leg. It was so funny! And then, Jack got a vaccine shot on his shoulder.  Apparently he didn't feel the needle because he didn't cry. Wow, the vet did it so quickly. He should be very experienced!

The blood test clarifies if the dog is infected by filarias, by the way. Jack got negative result.  Yey!

Jack, my dog, is going on 4 years old soon. He has grown a really good boy now. I believe this is not just my partial eye!

I got him from an animal care center. He was the last three puppies out of 15 left in a huge circle. The other pups were already in the going-to-be foster parent's arms. One of the center people offered me to hold one if I like. So I chose Jack, a black & tan little puppy. He was cute but his face looked dummy in a way. His black coat was miserablly grayish black. I guessed that was why no one wanted him to hold. heh, heh. I wanted a Shiba boy in black and tan coat from the beginning. Red coad seemed to be more popular there. Pups in black were only two. Jack and his sister. The girl has shiny healthy coat and bright shoe-button eyes. In other words, she looked cuter much much much more than Jack!! Hah, hah! Eventually I chose Jack because I wanted a boy. Anyway.

When he first came to my place I was not at all sure if he will be happy with us. But now I am so confident that he definitely is happy as a member of my family!

Yoshi, my husband, was reluctant about having a dog at first. It was right on the day I went to the animal care center that Yoshi said like, "if there is a puppy you really really like, you can bring it home."

If he didn't say so Jack wouldn't be here now.

And now, Yoshi, once so reluctant to have a dog, is deeply in love with Jack!

I tought him some tricks like "sit," "get down,""wait,""give me a paw," etc. Every feeding time, I order him to do it. My mother-in-law often says it is an abuse. She thinks those are the huge stress to Jack. She let him go to the direction he wants to go when she walks Jack... I don't think she is right ... In my opinion tricks are very important for a dog to focus on people and obey. If I just indulge him and let him do whatever he likes, he will be out of control! How to train depends on a dog owner but ... I just don't want to be called an abuser...  Hmm.. Anyway!

I can't even imagine a life without Jack! I love him!

a dog to be abandoned

It was rainy but quite a lovely warm day today.  I cannot believe that it snowed heavily about a week ago!

This afternoon, when Jack and I was taking a walk, we met an old man and a black Labrador mix.  They live near my place. He told me that they are moving out next month.  I was so shocked when he started to talk about the Labrador to give away because the new place is too small to keep a dog.  The words nearly came out of my mouth, "I can't believe it ...!"  Why? For 8 years he has had the Lab and how could he and his family abandon her?  The Lab is a girl, weigh seemingly about 15 kg, has beautiful thick black coat.  She is so friendly and has a beautiful brown eyes!  I really don't understand why such a beautiful good dog like her has to be abandoned?!

According to him, he will take her to the animal care centre if he wouldn't find anyone to keep her.   The animal care centre!  The place Jack was from and where stray dogs and cats are killed like garbage!!  NO!

I promised him to find someone who wants the Lab. I hope  I will find the one anytime soon. I told Yoshi about this and he offered the idea that we temporarily take care of her until we will find a new owner. So she wouldn't have to go to the centre.  I was impressed Yoshi said so.  I felt happy to have him as my husband! I am so proud of him.

It finally snowed!

Look, what covered the world!

Snow, snow, snow!

Snow piled up here in my town for the first time this winter. We are a kind of waiting for it. I am sure you would agree with me.  Imagine how you feel one morning you wake up,  look out of the window and see everything is covered with snow!  Aren't you ever excited!?

Someone has also been looking forward to snow to fall...

"That's me!!!"

During Yoshi and I were shoveling the snow,  Jack kept pushing and leaping the snow to run. He had real fun chasing birds and sticking his muzzle into the snow to sniff something.  He was soooo cute with snow all over his face!

"I am so ready..."

"Dive!!!! Yyyeeeeyyy!"

"Heee-haaa!!!"

hop! hop! hop!

"Chilly!"

In the evening,  after his dinner,  he was in good sleep...

Jack got a new toy

Jack got a new toy weeks ago. Yoshi bought it for him. Apparently Yoshi is spoiling Jack!

Yoshi was not willing to get a dog back when I brought Jack home from Yanamashi animal care centre. Now it seems Jack is the first reason Yoshi comes home for.  Heh, heh!

The dog toy makes noise when it is bitten.

The dog toy became Jack's most favorite already! It costs 2,600 JPY... Way too pricy for him

Yet he is happy with a ragged glove...
