被災地で育てた「復興芝生」 五輪サッカー会場に採用

宮城県沿岸の山元町では、震災からの復興のシンボルにしようと、地元の人たちおよそ２０人が、津波にのまれた農地を使って「復興芝生」と名付けた芝生の栽培に５年前から取り組み、現在は１５ヘクタールまで広がっています。
この「復興芝生」が、２０２０年東京オリンピックのサッカーの会場として東北地方で唯一選ばれた宮城県利府町の宮城スタジアムで採用されることになりました。
スタジアムを管理する宮城県が行った入札の結果、採用が決まったもので、来年春に種をまいて１年以上かけて育て、本番を翌年に控えた再来年の７月から張り替えの工事に入る計画です。
宮城スタジアムのピッチは、およそ７６００平方メートルで、震災の被災地で育った芝生が３年後にはオリンピックの晴れ舞台を緑に染め、“復興五輪”を掲げる大会の象徴の１つとなりそうです。
芝生を栽培する会社の大坪征一社長は「復興五輪、復興芝生を世界に発信していこうと作業員一同張り切っています。被災地で育った芝の上で選手たちに暴れ回ってほしい」と話していました。
この「復興芝生」は、２年後のラグビーワールドカップの会場の１つである愛知県豊田市の「豊田スタジアム」のピッチにも採用されていて、来年６月ごろに出荷される予定だということです。
