Japan's Urawa Reds defeated South Korea's Seongnam Ilhwa on penalties Wednesday to advance to the finals of the Asian Champions League.
After playing to a 2-2 draw in regulation time, the match went to a penalty shootout, which the J-League champions won 5-3.
Urawa goalkeeper Ryota Tsuzuki stopped Choi Sung-kuk in the second round of the shootout and Tadaaki Hirakawa scored on the decisive fifth spot kick to send the Japanese side through to face either Sepahan of Iran or Al Wahda of the United Arab Emirates in the final.
Urawa Reds became the first Japanese side to reach the AFC Champions League final.
In regulation, Brazilian striker Washington scored in the 21st minute for Urawa and Makoto Hasebe tied the match in the 73rd.
Choi scored for the South Korean team in the 56th to level the score and Kim Dong-hun put the visitors ahead in the 69th minute before Hasebe pulled the hosts even.
