I think the Winter Olympics may legitimately make my list of Top 5 Favorite
Things. I’m not sure what else would be on this list, perhaps bacon and
cartoons, but nothing gets me more pumped than this quadrennial celebration
of sport. Yes I know you can see an Olympics every second year but the summer
edition just isn’t the same. Not to knock the Summer Olympics, but I am a
proud Canadian and as our Olympic slogan says #WeAreWinter. I can guarantee
that across our country (& definitely in my home) Sochi 2014 will be almost
a religion. I am ready to fanatically watch and check the standings of
sports I normally don’t even watch. I know I will pour over medal counts,
analyze rivalries and will become obsessed with athletes I’ve previously
never heard of. I won’t even start on how crazy I’ll be about my sport
(aka figure skating). And I can hardly wait for the tear-jerker end-of-the-day
video montages. Those are my favourites. I also amconscious of the fact that
I will have so much to say on the games that I will obviously need to blog
daily.

この4年ごとのスポーツの祭典より興奮するものはないわ。ええ、あなた方は

夏のオリンピックを貶すわけじゃないけど、私は誇り高きカナダ人、
この国のオリンピックスローガンは#We Are Winterなの。
ソチ2014が、どこの国でも(間違いなく我が家は)ほとんど宗教みたいになるでしょうね。
私には、熱狂的に観戦したり、いつもは見ないスポーツの順位もチェックする準備が
出来ているわ。
メダル獲得数や対決の分析に躍起になり、これまで聞いたことのないアスリートにも
注目しちゃいそう。
私はマイスポーツ(別名フィギュアスケート)にまだ熱狂していないわ。
それと、感涙ものの最終日のビデオモンタージュが待ち遠しくて仕方がないの。
これらをとっても気に入っているわ。
明らかに毎日ブログに上げるべく競技について、話すことがたくさん出てくるのは
承知しているわ。
And because I love the Games so much you, the internet, get a bonus Day
-1 post. Due to the Figure Skating Team Event I have been sucked into the
competition a day early. When this new event was announced I didn’t like it.
It seemed like a weird idea that would just tire out some of Canada’s
premiere athletes. I’ve since come around. The strategy involved in
balancing getting a top team finish without affecting individual performances
is mind boggling. It makes it impossible to predict who will be matched up
against who and if top rivalries will come into play before individual
events even start. Plus more figure skating…how can that be bad?

I get intensely patriotic during the Olympics (who doesn’t?) but since
we are still Day -1 I’m going intentional. If you watched today’s
Men’s Short Program I dare you to not be in love with Yuzuru Hanyu.
This 19 year-old Japanese phenom is the cutest thing to hit figure
skating since, like, ever. I mean look at him…
私は、オリンピックの間ものすごく愛国心が強くなるの
(誰がそうじゃないって?)、
まだ意識して1日目なのに。
もしあなたが男子SPを見たら、羽生結弦に堕ちないでいられるかしら？

How can you not love that face? He’s like an adorable little alien.
Soooo skinny with his big head & feet. It’s delightful!↓
