The B-52's 「Love Shack」

ここのブログ情報には「黄金週間北米旅行記が断続進行中」などと書いてあるのに、その旅行記は依然ニューヨーク・ブルックリン美術館から進めていなくて、ちと焦っています。暖かく見守ってやってください。今回は先に進むどころか、後戻りになってしまいますが、ご容赦。

ニューヨークのテーマレストラン JEKYLL & HYDE CLUB についてはブログで長々と取り上げました。そこのステージ？にはゾンビバンドがいまして(といっても良くできた人形なんですが)、彼らが同じ曲を断続的に繰り返して演奏し(といっても録音された曲が流れているだけなんですが)、それをずっと聞かされていたため耳に残っていました。昔に聞いたことのある曲で、家にＣＤなんかも持っていそうな気がするんですが、思い出せなくて以来ずっと頭に引っかかっていました。

で、先日、北斎展を観に行った帰り、久しぶりにナチョスが食べたくなって、上野駅のハードロック・カフェ(ここもテーマレストラン)に行ったところ、店内でかかっていました。あの聞き覚えのある脳天気な曲が、プロモ・ビデオつきで。

映像というか、ツインの女性ヴォーカルの姿を見てすぐ思い出しました。
The B-52's「Love Shack」でした。よく聞けば、リフレインで、「Love Shack, Baby, Love Shack」と歌っているではないですか。「Cosmic Thing」からの一曲で、彼らの最大のヒット曲。ヘタウマさがいい塩梅です。

プロモ・ビデオを見ていたら、この曲をプロデュースした Don Was (今年はストーンズのプロデュースをして有名)の姿も見つかりました。Was(Not Was) の人です。なんか、めんどくさそうにベースを弾いてます。アルバムのパーソネルには出ていませんが、バックは Was(Not Was) 人脈のスタジオ・ミュージシャンで固められているようで、サックスは Dave Mcmurray (David Murray とは別人です) みたいでした。Was フリークの Tomotubby には大発見でした。


「Love Shack」手元にはＣＤシングルが２種ありましたが、左の方が Remix がたくさん入っていて楽しめます。
