Cat stationmaster Tama, superstar in western Japan, dies

【解説】

形容詞は普通は名詞の前に置かれます。「red pen」（赤いペン）がその例です。
ところが形容詞句（2つ以上の語が集まってある意味をもつもの）は名詞の後ろに置きます。There is a pen on the desk.　の「on the desuk」がそれです。

見出しの「superstar in western Japan」は形容詞句「西日本のスーパースター」→猫の駅長たま　→　が　死ぬ。

本文の同じで、「a cat stationmaster of a railway station in western Japan」
（西日本の鉄道の駅の猫の駅長）　→　たま

「whose」は関係代名詞。「immense popularity helped boost the railway operator's revenues and the local sightseeing industry」で

「大きな人気が鉄道運営会社の収入を増加させるのを助け、地元の観光産業の活性化を助けた」→　猫の駅長　→　たま

さて文法的には、「helped boost」ですが、「help」も動詞「boost」も動詞です。
一つの文の中に動詞を２つ使うときには、２つ目の動詞に「to」をつけて「不定詞」にしなければいけません。

本来は、「helped to boost」として「増加させることを助けた」となるべきなのですが、知覚動詞、使役動詞、help　の後には「to」をつけない「原形不定詞」を使うのが一般的です。
