Mt. Komuro Park in winter

If we talk about the flowers in Mt.Komuro Park, Ito city, they are AZALEA in spring time and CAMELLIA in winter. This picture is a SASANQUA, a kind of Camellia, in early winter.

Speaking of Sasanqua, we know very famous KARAOKE song, SAZANKA-NO-YADO, or Sasanqua Hotel, which was a hit song of 1983 year in Japan, being sung by Eisaku Okawa, a famous Japanese enka-singer.
The following is an English version of SAZANKA-NO-YADO, translated by somebody unknown.

Ito MarineTown

Ito Marine Town, established in July 2001 at the entrance of central Ito, just beside the Route 135, is a mini-town where the visitors to Izu Peninsula ( especially those who come by car ) can have a rest, make themselves relaxed in the seaside spa, take a meal (at the restaurants), enjoy shopping for the special products of Izu (at the Ocean Bazaar ) , get necessary information about Ito, and so on. On the ocean side of Ito Marine Town, a cruise boat service is available for sight-seeing around the port of Ito. Also, adjacent to this Marine Town is a marina named Sunrise Marina, where about 100 yachts are moored.

Ito Marine Town was registered as a Road Station in August 2002.

Izu Shaboten(Cactus) Park

Izu Shaboten(Cactus) Park is located at the foot of Mt.Omuro. There are 1,500 kinds of cactus of the world. Also, there are 100 kinds of cute animals and birds, such as squirrel monkey, capybara, parma wallaby, perican, peacock, flamingo, parakeet and so on, which are loose and free in the park, and they will suddenly appear just in front of the visitors. Visitors can enjoy seeing the chimpanzee show three times a day.
There are also 24 remains( which are replicas made of storn though) of ancient Mexico in this park.

Amagi Kogen Begonia Garden

Amagi Kogen Begonia Garden stands on the hillside of Amagi Mountain Range, at about 900m of height above sea level after going up on Rout 135 and Togasayama road from Ito by bus or car. There are 600 kinds of Begonia in 6,000 flower pots in this Begonia Garden and their full bloom can be enjoyed throughout all seasons. Among the Begonia flowers, there is a large hoop bulb Begonia known as " Queen of Flowers", which is native to Andes, South America.

Cherry Blossom

Izu Kogen of Ito is famous for cherry blosoom. There are many cherry trees in every area of Ito. Especially at Izu Kogen area and Jogasaki-Kaigan railway station area, we can enjoy seeing the full bloom of cherry blossoms at the end of March or beginning of April every year. About 3,000 Somei-Yoshino cherry blossom trees are lined along the so-called cherry blossom boulevard of 3 kilometers from Izu Kogen station up to the foot of Mt Omuro. Cherry blossom festival is held every year. Also at Jogasaki-Kaigan railway station area, cherry blossom trees are lined along the road for about 1.5 kilometers to Jogasaki coast.

Lake Matsukawa (Okuno dam)

At the upper stream of Matsukawa River, which is running through the center of Ito downtown area, there is Okuno dam, a man-made lake named Lake Matsukawa. Okuno dam was built in 1989 to secure drinking water for the people living in Ito, and also to control the flow of Matsukawa River at the time of heavy rain. Around the Lake Matsukawa ( Okuno dam ) people can enjoy to take a walk or fishing. There is also Okuno Park near the lake and people can enjoy seeing the cherry blossom, Shiba-zakura and other beautiful flowers.

Mt. Komuro Park

 Komuro mountain park(Mt.Komuro Park) is located between Ito downtown area and Jogasaki coast. The park is famous for azalea blossom in spring time. Visitors can enjoy to see 100,000 azalea trees with 40 kinds of colorful flowers at azalea festival held in every April.
There is also a famous camellia garden in this Komuro Mountain Park. From December till next April, visitors can be satisfied with 4,000 of camellia trees with 1,000 kinds of camellia blossom.
( Camellia is a symbol flower of Ito city )
Also,we can climb up the Komuro mountain(321m of height) by mountain lift and from the summit of Mt.Komuro, Izu seven islands lining up on the horizon can been seen in a fine weather.

Lake Ippeki

Lake Ippeki (or Ippeki-ko Lake) is the only lake we have in Izu Peninsula. People call this lake Pupil of Izu. It is 4 km of distance around the lake.
The visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery with the mountains and trees reflected in the surface of the lake, especially in Spring and Autumn. Also fishing can be done in this lake.


Sakurano-sato (Cherry Blossoms Garden)

Sakurano-sato( or Cherry Blossoms Garden) was opened 20 years ago at the foot of Mt. Omuro. There are 3,000 cherry trees with its 35 kinds. From September till next May, we can enjoy cherry blossoms of different kinds of cherry tree. There are other flowers like Cosmos, Rape Blossom, etc., in the garden.
There are many people who are enjoying picnic here, especially on Sunday.


Mt.Omuro (Omuro Mountain)

Mt.Omuro is a dormant volcano with very beautiful shape like inverted wooden bawl. Height is 581 m. People says Mt.Omuro is a Breast of Izu. There is a 300 m diameter crater on the top. Mountain burning will be carried out in February every year for refreshment of grasses. On top of the mountain we can enjoy the beautiful panoramic view around, including the view of Mt.Fuji and the seven islands of Izu on the horizon .
