Welcome to Shimoda! Shimoda is located in the southern part of Izu peninsula. Shimoda is so famous for opening Japan to the world in 1854, when Perry came to Shimoda port on board so-called KUROFUNE, or Black Ship.There are also many sight-seeing places and hot springs, as well.

Wild Narcissus field

At Tsumeki-Saki, the east end of Shimoda, there is a wide field of wild narcissus. Usually, in the end of December and January every year, Narcissus Festival is held and the visitors can enjoy seeing more than 3 millions of wild narcissus, with their sweet smell.

Tsumeki-Saki Light House

 On the cape at the east end of Shimoda, which faces to the Ocean, there is an unmanned white light house named Tsumeki-Saki light house. It was built in 1937 ( abt.70 years ago) and it is one of the important light houses at the east coast of Izu peninsula for the safe navigation of the ship.
An island seen slightly on the holizon is Toshima, one of Izu Seven Islands.
