"Maekado" Cape

Nice view! Here is Cape Maekado located just start line of Jogasaki picnical hiking course (near Boranaya of Futo ) 
We can enjoy vast scenery from here which includes the Ocean, Izu Oshima on the holizon, Futo village on north and a beautiful seashore.


Mt.Komuro (distant view)

Mt.Komuro is a kind of so-called scoria mountain, formed about 15,000 years ago by the eruption of a volcano. The height is 321m above the sea level.
The Mt.Komuro park was opened in 1957 all around MT.Komuro, where there are general play-grounds, a base-ball ground, tennis court, gate-ball ground, Camellia Garden, Azalea Garden,etc.
On top of the mountain, there is a viewing platform and you can enjoy seeing 360-degree panoramic views including Mt.Fuji and Seven Island of Izu.

Phoenix Canariensis

Canary Palm Tree (KANARI-YASHI in Japanese)or Phoenix canariensis)

There is a couple canary palm tree in front of Ito railway station.
The trees were presented by Mr. Okami who had a second house in Ito city about 80 years ago in commemoration of the opening of new railway between Ito and Atami(1938)
(Note): Canary palm tree (binominal name is Phoenix Canariensis) is native to Canary Island, the west coast of Africa.

Chinquapin tree of Takami (Ywatano, Ito city)

There is a huge chinquapin tree in the northern part of Yawatano district, Ito city(Popular name is known as "Chinquapin tree of TAKAMI" It is said that the tree is over 800 year old. It is about 20m high and about 8m aroud the trunk. The tree was designated as a Natural Monument of Ito city . Even now it bears seeds. Everbody would like to take after this long lived chinquapin tree.

Mountain burning of Mt.Omuro

Mountain-burning of Mt.Omuro is one of the events of Ito city. It is carried out on 2nd Sunday of February every year.
On February 12th, 2006, at 1200 hours, Mt. Omuro was set fire at the foot of the mountain of about 3.5 km circumference, and the whole mountain was completely burned out from the foot till the top within 10 minutes.
This mountain-burning is carried out in order to have new and fresh grasses to grow all over the mountain in spring time.

A Shinto Shrine

This is a Shinto shrine named Hachimangu-Kinomiya Shrine located on the mountains side of Yahatano area in Ito city. It is said that this shrine may bring blessings to those who pray for quitting drinking. This shrine is one of the cultural assets designated by Shizuoka prefecture.

Torii

This is Torii ( the gateway at the entrance to Shinto shrine) of Hachimangu-Kinomiya shrine. Generally speaking, there is Torii at the entrance to any Shinto shrine. It is a border between the sacred ground of God and human world. Torii is a symbol of Shinto shrine and an entrance to the sanctuary.
Torii is made of stone, wood, steel, copper, reinforced concrete, etc.
