『日本書紀』仁徳天皇 31
六十五年、飛騨國有一人、曰宿儺。其爲人、壹體有兩面、面各相背、頂合無項、各有手足、其有膝而無膕踵。力多以輕捷、左右佩劒、四手並用弓矢。是以、不隨皇命、掠略人民爲樂。於是、遣和珥臣祖難波根子武振熊而誅之。
六十七年冬十月庚辰朔甲申、幸河內石津原、以定陵地。丁酉、始築陵。是日有鹿、忽起野中、走之入役民之中而仆死。時異其忽死、以探其痍、卽百舌鳥、自耳出之飛去。因視耳中、悉咋割剥。故號其處、曰百舌鳥耳原者、其是之緣也。

In the sixty-fifth year of his reign, there was a man named Sukuna in the land of Hida. He had one body but two faces. The faces were positioned back-to-back, sharing one top of the head, and he had no neck. He had hands and feet on each side, with knees but no backs of the knees. He was strong and agile. He wore swords on both his left and right sides and wielded bows and arrows with his four hands. He did not obey the imperial command and took pleasure in plundering the people. Therefore, Naniwa no Nekotake Furukuma, an ancestor of Wani no Omi, was sent to kill him.
In the sixty-seventh year, on the fifth day of the tenth month of winter, the emperor went to Ishizuhara in Kawachi and designated the location for his tomb. On the eighteenth day, the tomb was built. On this day, a deer suddenly emerged from the field, ran into the workers, and fell dead. They found this sudden death strange and searched for wounds. A shrike flew out from the deer’s ear. Upon examining the ear, they found it completely eaten away. The place was named Mozu no Mimihara (Shrike’s Ear Field) because of this incident.

(仁徳天皇 在位)六十五年目に、飛騨の国に宿儺（すくな）という人がいました。この人は体が一つで、顔が二つありました。顔は背中合わせになっており、頭のてっぺんは一つで、項(うなじ 首)がありませんでした。手足がそれぞれ四本あり、膕踵(よぼろくぼ 膕 ひかがみ 膝の裏)がありませんでした。力が強くて素早く動くことができました。左右に剣を身につけ、四本の手で弓矢を使いました。皇命には従わず、人々を略奪するのを楽しんでいました。そこで、和珥臣（わにのおみ）の先祖である難波根子武振熊（なにわのねこたけふるくま）を派遣して、宿儺を殺させました。
(在位)六十七年目の冬、十月五日に、河内の石津原（いしづはら）にお出になり、陵地(みささぎのち 陵墓を作る場所)を定められました。十八日に陵を築かれました。その日、野原から急に鹿が飛び出してきて、走って働いている人々の中に入り、倒れて死にました。急に死んだことを不思議に思い、傷を探しました。すると、百舌鳥（もず）が鹿の耳から飛び去っていきました。耳の中を調べると、完全に食いちらされていました。このことから、その地を「百舌鳥耳原（もずのみみはら）」と呼ぶようになりました。
