Shogi trip in Austria/Slovakia 1

2014-03-07 | Europe2

October 11-15, 2013

I traveled in Germany, Austria and Slovakia in October 1o thru 18, 2013. It was one of my ‘Trip of Shogi and opera’. Now, I focus exclusively on a report of Shogi.

1.Graz
Graz is a middle sized city located in the south of Vienna in Austria. It takes one hour and 15 minutes by plane from Frankfurt. The city is also in my mind as the born place of Karl Boem, a great conductor of 20th century.

Austria Open Championship was held on October 12 & 13, 2013 at a room in the railway training center adjacent to Graz Central Station. The host was Thomas Pfaffel who was based in the city and Shogi players from Germany, Poland, Slovakia and Japan gathered. Very various players!

I played with Thomas. Thomas, Sente, adopted Nakabisha and the game grew complicated.
In the beginning of the last stage, I moved bad move, then I was defeated. I am 2 dan in the Shogi Dojo, so Thomas would be graded as 3 dan. Thomas noted Kifu of the game, and it will be updated in this blog in a near future. There was another strong Shogi player with the name of Marco Dietmeyer. Thomas defeated Marco and won the Championship.
