Health Meter

I think it's time that I start seriously considering reducing the size of Papapanda's "Front Porch." So I went to buy a scale. It's amazing all of the functions this new health meter has! For an essentially analog person like me, it was surprising to find out that the machine can even tell me my bone density, BMI, and actual "age." I won't tell you what that is , but it's older than I am in reality. Time to start getting in shape. Starting tomorrow!!

Golden Week

This is a great opportunity to relax. It's also a good chance to take care of some things we have been too busy to do recently. In my case, I will be finishing up a project. But I am going to limit myself to 4-5 hours of writing per day. The rest of the day I will enjoy relaxing. How about you? Can you make a commitment to spend at least 30-60 minutes per day studying vocabulary or TOEIC strategies? You'll be happy you did!!

Paul's お土産

Paul Wadden is my writing partner and best friend. He brought back some presents from his recent travels to Thailand and Cambodia. The first one is pretty amusing and shows his sense of humor. The other one is a set of Cambodian spices. He knows how much we enjoy cooking, so we were very happy to receive this.

By the way, I'm now working on a new set of TOEIC practice tests. There are four 1/2 tests, each one containing 100 questions and taking one hour. They should be published in July. I hope you will find them useful in your English study.

Hi! I’m Robert Hilke and I’m excited about opening this blog

I hope this will be a place where people can share information
about culture and language learning. I won’t be able to check
the blog every day, but I will certainly monitor it often and
contribute my comments whenever I can. I’m very interested
in TOEIC, of course, having written many TOEIC books and
having conducted many TOEIC seminars throughout Japan. I
may be able to offer some advice about how to take the
TOEIC test so that you can get the score you deserve to get.
At the same time, only getting a high TOEIC score is not the
final target. The ability to communicate in English
comfortably is the real goal. TOEIC is simply a “driver’s
license” that will help you achieve that final goal

But even if a person has a high TOEIC score, that is no
guarantee that he or she will be able to communicate
successfully in the diverse, global business environment we
live in today. Having a good understanding of how other
people think is absolutely necessary. That’s why I also will
offer my comments related to intercultural communication.

With everyone’s contribution, I am sure that together we can
create a useful blog that will serve as a forum for sharing
information about topics related to successfully navigating our
lives, both professional and personal, in the 21st century.
